“You really are taking this college thing seriously,” Seraphina says in a way of greeting, her eyes glued to the TV, where some Korean drama is playing.

“Did you expect something else?”

“Quite honestly? Yes. By the way, there was a package in front of your door when I got back to the apartment.”

I slow down, her comment prickling my attention. “A package?”

“Yeah,” she tilts her head to the side, her eyes still glued to the screen. “It’s right there on the table.”

“But I didn’t order anything.”

I shift my gaze to the box sitting on the table. Slowly, I walk toward it, looking at my name written on the top in black marker.

Just that.

No address or any info on who sent the package.

Sebastian Black.

My stomach rolls uncomfortably as I just stare at it for what seems like forever like it’s a ticking time bomb just waiting to explode. It’s not even surprising after everything that’s happened in the last few days.

It’s just a package. Chill.

Going to the kitchen, I grab the scissors and cut the tape. Holding my breath, I open the box, my gaze falling on the contents inside.

“Fucking…”

My hand grips the box tighter as an uncomfortable shudder runs down my spine, my stomach rolling with discomfort, but even so, I can’t remove my gaze from the damn box. One of the photos of me and Penelope that was published in a magazine is cut and placed at the bottom, one straight line going just over my neck, something that looked like blood sliding down the ripped image and shaping into three ominous words.

You are next.

“What’s in the package?” Seraphina asks, her voice coming from behind me.

Quickly, I close the box and turn around. “Nothing.”

Her eyes narrow at me, her gaze slowly going to the box before it returns to me. “What the hell’s in that box, Bash? You look like you’ve seen a ghost.”

“I—”

She doesn’t wait for an answer. Shoving me out of the way, she opens the box.

“Don’t…” I try to stop her, but it’s already too late.

Seraphina’s mouth falls open as she stares at the message inside, all the color draining from her face. She turns to me and points her finger at the box. “What the fuck is that?”

“Sera…”

“Don’t you Sera-me!” she yells, jabbing her finger into my chest. “What the hell, Bash? I thought…” She shakes her head. “We have to report this.”

“And say what exactly?”

“I don’t know, but we have to dosomething.”

Something.

As if it was that easy.

I cross my arms over my chest. “Did you see the person who brought the box?”
