I expect him to help me to my feet, but I have another thing coming.

“Oh, I’m nowhere near done with you yet, Birdy.” With that wicked promise, he pulls me into his arms. His dick is still nestled inside me. I can feel it come to life as he starts walking. “Not even close.”

And I was totally fine with that.

CHAPTERTHIRTY-EIGHT

PENELOPE

The first thing I notice when I wake up is the steady rise and fall of Sebastian’s chest under my cheek. I stay still for a beat and just listen to his heart. That solidthump-thump-thumpringing in my ears and making my lips curve in a smile.

I’m not sure how long we stayed up last night. After we climbed upstairs, we went to the bathroom, where we spent an indecent amount of time in his shower, which is more like a freaking room. I swear that thing can easily fit ten people inside. We stayed there until the water turned cold, and then Sebastian led me back into his room, where all that cleaning went to waste, but I didn’t have it in me to have any regrets.

Not when it came to Sebastian.

But now I can feel my bladder protest, so reluctantly, I pull away, making sure to be as quiet as possible. When I get into a seated position, I hear Henry get up and brush against my legs.

“You up too?” I whisper, rubbing his head, as I get to my feet.

Thankfully, I had the foresight to ask Sebastian to lend me one of his shirts last night because the last thing I want is to walk around an unfamiliar house naked.

“Think you can take me to the bathroom?” I ask Henry, my hand still on his body.

Henry starts moving immediately, and I let him lead me since I left my bag downstairs, so I don’t have my cane handy. But Henry is a good sport, and we make it to the bathroom, where I quickly do my thing, and we step out into the hallway.

Walking outside of the room is slightly more difficult. I try to use both Henry and the wall as a guide, a mistake which results in me bumping into some kind of side table or something like that. Thankfully, the biggest damage is the fact that I’ll probably have a bruise afterward, but nothing ended up broken. At least, for now.

“Find my backpack, Henry,” I say once we descend the stairs.

I just needed to get my hands on my cane, and I’d feel more in control.

Henry’s whole body shakes as he wags his tail and starts moving. I hold onto him as he leads me through the house, my naked feet freezing against the marble floors.

Henry finally comes to a stop and barks once.

I crouch down and feel around me until I find the backpack on the floor. The knot in my stomach loosens as I pull the zipper open and find my cane inside it, along with a bag of treats. I pull one out and hand it to Henry. “Good job, buddy.” He takes the treat greedily, his raspy tongue tickling my skin. “Now, let’s see about getting you—”

“So he brought you with him,” a female voice says from behind me.

“Holy shit!” I jump, biting my lip to stifle a yelp in surprise. My hand flies to my chest, covering my rapidly beating heart, as I turn around in the direction of the voice. “I didn’t realize somebody was here.”

Although I do distantly remember Sebastian mentioning he has a housekeeper that comes once a day. Is that her?

“You just passed by me,” the woman points out, her voice cold.

My fingers sink into Henry’s fur. “I can’t see. I’m blind.”

The silence that stretches between us is so thick you could easily cut it with a knife. I can sense the woman’s hard gaze on me, taking me in, assessing me, judging me.

I’m not sure why, but it takes me back to middle school, only it somehow feels worse, which is saying something in itself.

Get a grip, Penny.

I shift my weight from one foot to the other, raising my chin a notch in defiance. I’m not about to let her scare me off. I meant what I told Sebastian. I was done hiding, done feeling ashamed for something I had no control over. Sebastian didn’t care about my blindness. He embraced it. Hell, I embraced it. So why should I let other people tell me otherwise?

Rushing footsteps come from the hallway, and I can feel my shoulders relax, if only slightly.

“Birdy, wha—” Sebastian stops mid-sentence, and the tension that was in the room intensifies. “Mother.”
