It would be outrageous. What would have to happen that I, out of all people, would get a chance to meettheSebastian Black?

Nothing, that’s what.

I’d have better chances of being abducted by aliens or something.

But even if by some miracle I did, I’d probably make a fool out of myself.

I still couldn’t believe tonight. I’ll finally be able to hear him play live. It was one of those things that I hadn’t had a chance to do yet. And the only reason I was here was because Jade somehow managed to snatch four tickets for our friends and me as my early birthday present.

Loud groaning snaps me out of my thoughts just before a woman’s voice comes through the speakers, making the place go quiet. “Hello, everybody!”

My stomach tightens in excitement. This was it. Soon he’ll be out on the stage, and I’ll be able to hear the music that had helped me heal when the darkness became too much to bear.

“Good evening. Unfortunately, I’m sorry to announce that tonight’s concert is canceled.” The crowd groans in disappointment, and I can feel my fingers tighten around the armrests as the woman continues. “Bash isn’t feeling well. He’s been fighting a cold for the last couple of days, and while he tried to rest as much as possible so he could perform for you tonight, that isn’t feasible after all. From the Black management team, we apologize for your inconvenience and thank you all for coming tonight. Of course, all the tickets will be reimbursed, and we hope to see you at some future concerts.”

“Damn, I can’t believe this is happening,” Jade mutters. “Like seriously, what are the odds?”

A hand slides over my shoulder. “You okay?” Grace asks, her soft voice drowned by the commotion of the crowd as people start moving around us.

“Yeah, just disappointed.”

As somebody who’s used to singing, if only just for fun, I have an idea of what it took to sing—the mental and vocal preparation it took from a person. But to do it on such a level as Sebastian, who’s been on tour for months? Performing every few evenings for hours?

I definitely couldn’t imagine it.

“I just hope he’s okay, that’s all.” I turn to my friends. “I’m sorry you guys wasted time coming tonight.”

“Oh, please. Girl’s night isnevera waste of time,” Jade says easily. “I vote we get out of here and go grab some food. What do you girls think?”

A chorus of agreement surrounds me, and I nod my head. The folding chairs bang as we get to our feet, and I give my guide dog the command. “Henry, time to go, buddy. Follow Jade.”

Later that night, once I get to the hotel, my stomach full of tacos and mocktails, I pull out my phone and search Sebastian’s name, only to come up empty. There is no news from him—no posts or stories on his social media. After posting the video Jade helped me make tonight of me and Henry, I closed my phone. Every few days, I’d search for Sebastian’s name again.

A few other concerts were canceled, and after two weeks, finally, the whole tour. Fans were disappointed, but what worried me was that we hadn’t heard anything from Sebastian himself.

For weeks after, I looked him up, hoping to find something. But there was no news, no new tour dates or appearances. Some articles mentioned him, debating on what had happened behind the scenes that would cause the whole tour to get canceled. There were a lot of speculations, but nobody knew what happened to him. It’s like Sebastian Black has disappeared from the face of the Earth, and I couldn’t help but wonder what had happened to him.

CHAPTERONE

PENELOPE

Three months later

One thing I didn’t need to hear?

My friends having sex.

Loudly.

My cheeks heat as another moan comes from behind the closed door, followed by a loudthud.

Oh-kay.

I’m kind of glad that I heard them before I knocked on the door because that would have been awkward. Although seriously, what were the chances of them hearing me knock with all that noise coming from the inside?

My fingers tighten around the harness as I whisper softly, “I think this is our cue to leave. Find stairs, Henry.”

Not needing to be told twice, Henry guides me toward the stairs. My face is still burning when I get out of the building. The late afternoon sun is shining brightly, although it’s almost six in the evening.
