“Yeah, we’re a rowdy bunch.”

“Mr. Boyfriend of the year,” Seraphina says loud enough to be heard over the crowd. “Did you really have to make such a spectacle?”

“I just kissed my girlfriend, hardly a spectacle,” Sebastian says, pressing his mouth against the side of my neck.

“You staked your claim. I know it, and they know it too. Besides, you’ve never brought anybody who’s not connected to our world to an event like this. I had a few reporters ask me how I feel about my ex bringing a new girl with him.”

“I hope you said you’re green with envy,” Sebastian teases.

“Only in your dreams, Black.”

“What should he be dreaming about, Vixen?” a new voice joins our conversation. Low and deep, with just a trace of a southern accent that somehow feels familiar.

For a moment, silence settles over us, making me wonder who the newcomer is.

“I hardly think it’s you since Bash seems to have his hands full,” the guy continues, humor lacing his words.

“What are you doing here, Jagger?”

Jagger?

As in Jagger Walker?

The guy chuckles softly, “I would assume exactly the same thing as everybody else in this room, waiting for my award.”

Seraphina scoffs, “You do realize the awards are given on the fan vote, right? Do you think there are people crazy enough to like you?”

“People like me just fine,” Jagger points out. “You’re the only one who seems to have a problem with me.”

“I have a hard time believing that.”

“So you think I won’t win?”

“Only in your dreams, country boy,” Seraphina says confidently.

I wasn’t sure what their deal was, but I could sense an ongoing rivalry.

“Do you want to put your money where your mouth is?”

“What do you mean?”

The man chuckles to himself. “I bet you I can win more awards than V.I.X.E.N. can.”

There is a pregnant pause. “You’re joking? Right?”

“I’m serious. And you guys even have an advantage since it’s four of you against little ol’ me. So what do you say, Seraphina?”

“Fine. There is no way you can win.”

“I guess we’ll have to wait and see. Won’t we?”

“What do I get if I win?”

“Whatever you want.”

“Hmm… You’ll have to sing a V.I.X.E.N. song at your next concert and admit you lost.”

“Fine. But if I win…”
