“Maybe. But I love to see you blush.”
I step in front of her, raising my hand and skimming the back of it over her cheek. She sucks in a breath, and I can see her body shudder at the touch.
“Makes me wonder how far that color will spread,” I continue, my voice dropping lower.
“I-is…” Her throat bobs as she swallows, trying to get some control over her voice. “Is this another of your lessons in flirting?”
Lessons in flirting?
I guess I did promise her that, didn’t I?
“Do you want it to be?”
Her mouth parts, tongue sliding over her lower lip as she tries to come up with an answer. The silence stretches between us, filled with zapping tension. My gaze falls down to her lips once again, my own mouth going dry.
Fuck this.
“C’mon, Birdy.” Letting my hand drop, I grab her palm in mine. “Let’s get out of here.”

Do you want it to be?
I can’t stop thinking about Sebastian’s question as he pulls me into the hallway, where he lets go of my hand. Before I can ask what the hell’s going on, something is placed in my palms.
“You’ll need this.”
I rub the material, feeling its weight and the smoothness of the fabric between my fingertips.
“Pantsanda jacket?”
Where the hell are we going?
“Just put it on.”
Rolling my eyes at him, I do as he asks. I can feel Henry brush against my leg, so I place my hand on top of his head, giving him a soft rub.
“Not this time, buddy. Watch the house, and I’ll be home soon.”
Henry whines in protest but doesn’t try to follow after us as we step out, and I lock the door behind us, pulling my cane from the back pocket and letting it unfold so I can navigate the space easily.
“Does he make a mess when you leave him like that?”
“What?” I glance at him, letting the tip of the cane glide over the floor. “Of course not. He’s a well-behaved dog.”
“He tried to bite me when I touched the keyboard,” Sebastian points out dryly.
“Who’s the liar now? Hegrowled, a far cry from biting.”
