“Birdy…” Sebastian starts, but I stop him.

“I’ll see you in class?”

Not giving him a chance to give me an answer, I give Henry the command, and we’re on our way.

My fingers are shaking as I find the keys in my bag, and it takes me a few tries before I finally manage to slide it into my lock. Only when I’m safely in my apartment, the door closed, do I let out a long breath, my shaky fingers rising and tracing the outline of my lips.

Because I didn’t almost kiss Sebastian Black.

Did I?

CHAPTERTWENTY

SEBASTIAN

Me:

Wanna play together?

Birdy:

Can’t today.

I scowl at the message I just received from her, feeling the irritation growing inside me.

Can’t?

Why the hell not?

Wasn’t she supposed to be helping me get my muse back?

I couldn’t get it if she weren’t there.

Who was I kidding? She is my muse, plain and simple.

Me:

Why the hell not?

I stare at the screen, waiting for some kind of answer, but when it doesn’t come, I tilt my head back, groaning.

It was the kiss.

Well,almostkiss.

Or maybe it was the scar I discovered hiding under that leather bracelet she never takes off.

At least it felt like a scar in that split second that I managed to touch it.

Was that it?

Was that the reason she ran out of here like her ass was on fire? Maybe she was right to do it too. Maybe she was better running away from me.

Lifting my hand, I rub my palm over my face as the memories of the other night flash in my mind.

Penelope was sitting on the couch next to me. The hem of that short skirt rose and revealed her naked skin. Her laughter filled the room. That innocent look on her face as she turned over her shoulder, those dark blue eyes fixing on me.

It was pure torture, sitting behind her like that. Feeling her body pressed against me. That delicate smell of roses clinging to her skin. I still wasn’t quite sure if it was shampoo or perfume; I only knew it was her. Penelope.
