The little whore.

The mic stood, waiting for me like a siren’s call. My need for revenge made me race up the steps and take up my position in front of the large projector screen.

They had all sensed that something was wrong. It was in the air around me. In the blank anticipation on their faces.

Power coursed through my veins. I was in my playground, the temple of my power.

I could not shake the rejection. That word had no place in my vocabulary.

How dared she? How dared she, after I gave her a spot here? After all I promised to do for her?

I could have made her a wealthy woman. She could have been somebody important, one day.

But she chose the life of an outcast instead. Stupid, stupid, stupid.

I let the silence stretch out for a moment before parting my lips to speak .

My voice dripped venom.

“Welcome to the Annual Spring Gala of East Harbor University! As with every year, we have pulled out all the stops to make this event something to remember. Unfortunately, our first speaker has been rendered incapable.”

I paused, letting the effect sink in. There were murmurs and frowns. Noah Evans looked around at his two cronies.

Good. Let it sink in.

“As you know, I believe that this night is solely devoted to celebrating academic excellence. Which is why, the moment I heard our key speaker has been involved in a very public scandal concerning three of our best teachers, I had to take a step back.”

The murmurs became more intense, fueling and charging the deviousness in my blood.

“Yes,” I purred. “Aurora Sullivan had so much promise in her. But it has been brought to my attention that she has been guilty of academic fraud, along with three professors. I cannot solely blame her for this error of judgment.”

Let it sink in. Nice and slow.

“These men.” I let my eyes linger on the exact section where the three of them sat, looking at me with defiance in their eyes. The fools.

“We must not be tooquick to blame our students. Instead, we must reach out and offer them counsel so they do not fall prey to such unscrupulous educators.”

The tension in the room had become palpable. I could almost taste it on my lips, slightly bitter, but mostly sweet. So good.

So good.

“We, as the guardians of such powerful institutions, must make sure that we keep the minds of our young, vulnerable students free from such... heinous acts. To this end, it is with great regret that I announce I am being forced to blacklist three of our own.”

Among the din of rising voices, the projector behind me suddenly came to life.

I didn’t look until there were tumultuous gasps breaking through the crowd.

Then I turned around, and my world collapsed.

It was me. Aurora and me. In that hotel room.

I was saying things.

Things that would... no.

They couldn’t touch me. I’d find a way out.

“What is going on?”
