“Hey. There’s no pressure.” Elijah smiled through the screen. “We know, more than anyone, how hard these chatrooms can be. You’re exploring a whole new side of yourself. It’s okay for that to take some time.”

She nodded. “I have to go now. But thank you for what has literally been the best night of my life in the longest time.”

I waited until the screen went dark, and the moderator of our chatroom asked us to submit our feedback. Oh, she was definitely getting an A+ from me.

Elijah was calling me.

“Hey.”

He stayed silent for some time. “That was something else,” he finally said.

“Tell me about it,” I replied, getting up to fetch myself a beer. “She was... I’ve never met someone like her.”

Again, a minute of silence. “Eli? Are you there?”

Elijah’s voice was strangled with guilt when he responded.

“I know her. And yes, she was amazing. For the first time in what’s been like forever, I felt physically alive and in touch with myself. I don’t know what it was. We didn’t even have a conversation. But she made me feel something. But... Benji, we could be making a huge mistake.”

“What do you mean? Okay, before you go on, get this. I know this girl too. Remember the girl I told you about that day? The one I’d run into before she bolted out the door like she’d seen a ghost?”

“Yeah?”

“It’s her. Eli, I swear, she’s the one I saw that night. This has to be fate, right?”

“Benji.”

I could hear the urgency in his voice. It unsettled me as if there was something he wanted to say, but he was afraid of hurting me.

“What is it? Are you okay? Spill it, Eli.”

“We have to be careful.”

I frowned. I knew we were on new territory, but—

“What’s going on?”

“Sylvie—she’s one of my students. She’s transferred here for her final year.”

“Are you serious?”

“I am.”

Fate.

That cunning bitch.

My mind was a jumble of conflicting thoughts as I sat alone in my room, replaying the events of the chatroom over and over again in my head. I had allowed myself to be controlled by three strangers. That should have felt… odd?

But I couldn't deny the intense rush of pleasure that had coursed through my body as they told me what to do.

It was everything I’d hoped for, and then some.

The memory of their words still echoed in my mind, the husky timbre of their voices sending shivers down my spine. I needed a drink. Actually, I needed three.
