A month ago, and I truly believed this is what precipitated the entire foray into Naughty Lessons, I’d reached out to her, my tummy full of Rocky Road and bourbon and my eyes full of tears. I’d woken up after a very bad dream. My college ex haunted it from beginning to end.

I’d told her I wanted her to set me up with someone. And for the first time in her life, Chelsea had said no to me. She’d told me I wasn’t ready, that I wouldn’t be, not until I truly understood what I wanted.

Coming to New York had changed many things for me. It had opened up my worldview and given me the foresight to know we were all messed up when it came to love. But if it was the right kind of love, it could be powerful enough to feel amazing, no matter where it came from.

And that’s what she wanted me to learn.

So, I hadn’t seen the Love Locked office yet. I knew she was going at it with one of her competitors, a guy called Lance who had this hilarious broadcasting channel that worshipped aspiring giga-Chad single males and told them they could “earn” women by being their douchey selves.

Honestly, I wanted to take him down for the fun of it. It was the topic of many of our sleepovers. We got drunk, watched reruns of Bridget Jones, and talked about how great it would be if we could get Lance to drop his pants and parade him naked around Times Square.

Maybe one day.

I sighed as I reached the apartment gate. “Stay tonight, Chels?”

She shook her head, a little apologetically. “I wish I could, love. I have an early board meeting tomorrow, and we need to come up with ways to eviscerate Lance. But I’m going to see you tomorrow evening after your classes, okay?”

I nodded. “Okay. And then we’ll come up with a plan to make a naked monkey outta him.”

The rest of the night passed by without too many interruptions. I couldn’t tell if I had any other wet sex dreams, but when I woke up, I felt truly rested. I went through the motions of the day—coffee, a quick shower, changing into my college clothes, and then, I was running to my psychology class, late as usual.

Classic Rors.

I grabbed my bag and ran toward class, sprinting across campus in a panic. I could hear the professor's voice echoing down the hallway as I approached the classroom.

With just seconds to spare, I reached the door and threw it open. But as I stepped inside, my foot slipped on the threshold, and I went down hard.

I slid across the floor, my arms flailing and my bag flying off my shoulder. It was like a scene out of a slapstick comedy, and I couldn't help but laugh as I came to a stop at the front of the room.

The professor's expression was priceless. He looked at me with a mix of amusement and concern, as if he couldn't quite believe what he was seeing.

"Are you alright?" he asked, trying to stifle a grin.

I sat up, my face red with embarrassment. "I'm fine, just a little clumsy," I said, hoping to brush it off.

But the class was already snickering, and I could feel my cheeks getting even redder. Noah Evans tried to resume the lecture, but I could tell he was struggling to keep a straight face.

As he went through his slides, I could see the other students giving me sideways glances and trying to suppress their giggles. I knew I was going to be the butt of jokes for the rest of the day.

But as the class went on, I started to relax and even join in the laughter. It was a funny moment, and I was glad I could be the one to provide a bit of comic relief.

And then, I forgot the affairs of the day as Professor Evans began speaking once more. Honestly, I couldn’t get enough of his words. And today’s topic was all about bending rules.

Evans began the class with a simple question. "Why do we break rules?" Immediately, hands shot up around the room, and I eagerly awaited his response.

“Maybe because they give us a way to challenge things we don’t agree with?” I tentatively responded.

"Excellent," he replied, his eyes piercing into me. "Breaking rules is often seen as negative behavior, but in reality, it can be healthy. Breaking the rules allows us to question societal norms and think outside the box."

A student raised her hand and asked, "But what about the consequences of breaking rules?"

Mr. Evans smiled. "Consequences are a natural part of life, and sometimes, breaking the rules is worth it."

He animatedly went into a discussion on the human psyche, but all through the class, it felt as if his eyes were boring into me. Like... he looked so familiar, and this wasn’t because I’d already had a class with him.

No, it was almost as if I’d seen him somewhere else, in a more intimate setting.

Something forbidden tingled up my spine. I couldn’t place a finger on what I felt, but it was exciting.
