Sally bounded across the room the second I’d tied her hair, her cries full of something about her nanny baking a meringue pie that she had to “help with.”

I grinned and turned my attention to my phone. I had a message from Noah on our group chat, which he’d decided to label “The Boys”.

Trust Noah to make it seem like I’d just graduated high school yesterday. He texted us to do a conference call.

“Hey, boys, what's up? Just wanted to remind you both that we're young guys with charisma, not old fogies!”

I almost snorted out my coffee. Benjamin replied with pretty much the exact answer I had in my mind.

“Speak for yourself, Noah. I'm feeling pretty ancient these days.”

Noah was in no mood to throw in the flag. "Come on, guys, we're not that old. We're just... seasoned."

I chuckled before my reply. “You make us sound like steaks, Noah. Why aren’t you at class?”

“Ugh, stop being such a dad for a sec, Eli! We’re not steaks, we’re fine wine.”

I couldn't resist throwing in another dad joke. "Or a pair of well-worn shoes."

“Okay, okay, I get it. We're not exactly spring chickens anymore. But that doesn't mean we can't still have some fun, right?”

“That's right! We can still tear it up on the dance floor... as long as we stretch first.”

I laughed out loud at that one. "Or we could just stick to playing board games and sipping on our Metamucil."

“Hey, I heard Metamucil is all the rage with the young crowd these days.”

“Yeah, it's like a hipster version of fiber.”

I couldn't help but shake my head. My back already hurt.

"Guys, let's face it. We're not exactly the target demographic for TikTok dances and energy drinks anymore."

“Speak for yourself, Elijah. I still know all the words toBaby Shark.”

Of course you do.

“And I can down a Red Bull like nobody's business.”

“Okay, okay. What’re we here for? Noah, spill the beans right now, because I know you haven’t come to the group chat to convince us that we’re hip youngsters.”

“True enough,” Noah admitted. “I actually... I came here because I wanted to talk about Rory.”

Aurora. I hadn’t been able to stop thinking about her since our last conversation.

“What do we do about her?” Benjamin replied. “All I know is I don’t want this... whatever it is... to stop.”

The idea of a reverse harem situation had been in my mind. I wasn’t one to shy away from sharing. June and I were in consensual non-monogamy for the longest time.

All of that stopped when I lost her because she was the energy to everything I did.

But this game would be far different, and I couldn’t help feeling conflicted.

“Guys, this could land us in trouble, though. We joined East Harbor with a mission.”

“And we’re never going to forget what that is.” Noah’s reply was gruff. “None of us can rest until we have our revenge, Eli. But does that mean we need to stop living?”

“No, it doesn’t.” I agreed with Noah, but seeds of doubt nagged at my mind. “But she’s about a decade younger than us, guys. Plus, she’s our student.”
