“No, I’ll take care of it. But block your schedule for noon on Friday. See you soon!” Justin ended the call.

I placed the receiver back on its cradle. Things sounded good for Justin and Sarah. Maybe they were finally making it official after all this time. A wedding would be so much fun, wouldn’t it?

My mind drifted off into daydreams of wedding plans. Maybe I should get to know Sarah better. Then I could help plan the wedding. And Avery’s. I’d be a great wedding planner, I just knew it.

I shook my head to refocus, reaching for my coffee mug as I realized I had a job, a real one. Time to get down to business and get some work done. At my actual job, not my fantasy job.

OnWednesday,Icouldn’tconcentrate on work at all. All my thoughts centered on my upcoming date with Drew. I’d come in extra early that morning—thank fuck for coffee—and had gotten more done than I’d expected. I forced myself to double check a few spreadsheets, but everything was in order for once.

I snuck out early for a blowout at my favorite salon, then stopped at the nail salon for a mani/pedi. I so rarely treated myself to getting my nails done that it was almost foreign, but the warm water soak and foot massage made me think I’d be back sooner rather than later.

I looked at my toes. The bright red polish stood out against my pale skin and the gray bathroom rug. I wrapped myself in a satin robe, more for the sexy feeling than anything else, and concentrated on the mirror while I did my makeup. I arched my eyebrows, one after the other, as I lined my eyes with dark eyeliner.

Why did I care so much that he liked the way I looked? He’d seen me at my crying, red-nosed worst and somehow was still willing to take me out.

I pulled out a red sheath dress and held it up while I surveyed myself in the mirror. Definitely sexy, but…I reached for a turquoise A-line dress and held that up instead. Red was sexier, or at least it gave off that vibe, but the other one definitely made my blue eyes pop. I held up the red dress once more before I hung it up, deciding on the turquoise number.

I pulled it on. The dress sat perfectly. The boat neck and cap sleeves drew attention to my shoulders and collarbone, and the A-line silhouette emphasized my waist, which for once I didn’t hate.

I twirled in front of the mirror, feeling the fabric of my skirt brush against my legs. Damn, I looked good.

I checked the time as I left Orion some extra kibble. Not that I was planning to not come home tonight, but better safe than sorry, right?

I had a few minutes before Drew would be here. I grabbed a K-cup from my stash and pressed down the top on my single-serve coffee maker, waiting for it to do its magic. The coffee spit out of the machine, filling the oversized mug halfway. I added a few spoonfuls of sugar, then filled the cup the rest of the way with milk. I settled into my favorite chair with the steaming mug and pulled out my phone.

I’d only taken a few sips when the doorbell made me jump.

I pulled open the door. Drew stood on the doorstep. Damn, he made a suit look good. Too good, if you asked me.

“You look gorgeous, baby.” Drew reached out and tucked a strand of hair behind my ear, sending jolts of electricity down my spine. “Are you planning to wear shoes tonight?”

I looked down at my bare feet. Huh. Yeah, this probably wasn’t the best time of year to go barefoot. “Hang on. I’ll be right back.”

I dug through the pile of shoes in my closet. There was a pair of nude stilettos hidden near the bottom of the stack. I pulled them out and slipped them on. They pinched, and I was a little unsteady, but they looked hot. Plus, I wouldn’t seem like such a shrimp next to the Greek God who was taking me out.

I made my way back to the entryway, trying my best to stay steady in the killer heels.

Drew raised his eyebrow as I neared him. “Those things comfortable?”

I was too busy trying to keep my balance to focus on the disapproval on his face. “Um, yeah. Sure. Let’s go.”

Drew chuckled darkly. “Oh, baby, it’s been too long, hasn’t it?”

I finally caught sight of his expression as he stepped all the way inside and closed the door behind him. He sat down in my favorite chair, making himself at home.

I sensed I was losing any control I’d had in this situation, and I had had little to begin with. “Aren’t we going out?”

Drew crooked his finger. “Come here, kitten.”

I took a few tentative steps toward him, stumbling in my stupid shoes. Maybe these were a bad choice, but they looked damn hot.

Drew patted his thighs. “Over my lap, baby.”

I stared at him. “But—”
