His eyebrow arched.

Fuck. The submissive inside me melted at his dominance. I leaned over his lap, centering my weight on his firm thighs.

Drew flipped up my skirt. His fingers hooked into the waistband of my underwear and dragged them agonizingly down to my mid-thigh. He rubbed his hand over my backside. “Marks are nearly faded, aren’t they, kitten?”

I didn’t answer. I clung to his pants for balance, squeezing my thighs together. He didn’t need to see the evidence of my arousal that was already slick between my legs.

Drew’s hand lifted to deliver a series of sharp spanks, continuing until they layered one on top of another. My ass was burning after a few short minutes. He paused, his hand heavy on my lower back.

“Would you like to try again, kitten? Are those shoes comfortable? The truth, please.”

I sniffled. I wouldnotcry. I wouldn’t. It would ruin my mascara, for one thing. Plus, the spanking hadn’t even hurt that bad, if I was honest. It was the disappointment, the way he’d taken me so easily in hand that made tears prick at my eyes.

“No, Sir. They’re not comfortable. I just thought they’d look nice and you wouldn’t see me as a little kid if I was taller.” I sniffed again.

“Good girl.” Drew’s hand came down again four times, harder than before. “No lying, baby. Ever. Even if it’s about something small.”

He pulled the underwear back up over the small fire on my ass and let my skirt fall back into place before he tipped me back up to my feet. He caught my chin with his fingers, gazing hard into my eyes. “Go find some shoes that are comfortable. And baby? The last thing I see you as is a little kid. Trust me on that.”

He gave me a softer swat on the ass as I scampered toward my bedroom. I pulled the heels off on my way. Yeah, those weren’t comfortable. I let out a sigh of relief. After perusing the options, I chose a set of nude kitten heels that honestly went better with the outfit than the high heels.

When I emerged from the bedroom, Drew was holding my jacket with a smile on his face, the spanking already forgotten and my lapse forgiven. He held it up while I slid my arms in, then offered me his arm. “Shall we, baby?”

Idroveusdowntownin my Wrangler. I kept the top up in the winter which, if you asked me, defeated the entire purpose of driving a Wrangler. I swung the SUV into a parking spot next to Sushi Colorado, widely regarded as the best sushi in town. I hoped Emma liked sushi, because I ate here at least once a week.

It was 6:35 exactly when we entered the restaurant. I hated lateness, but I’d take full responsibility here.

“Reservation for McCord for 6:30. Apologies for our lateness. We ran into a…situationthat needed correcting.” I looked pointedly at Emma, who blushed.

The maître d’ showed us to a table without comment. I pulled out a chair for Emma, then rounded the table to my seat.

“How was work today?” I asked. I unrolled the napkin and laid it over my lap.

Emma stared at me. “You want to talk about work?”

Yeah, I did. I wanted to know everything about this woman. I winked at her. “We could talk about other things, but I want to hear about your day. What you do all day.”

Emma looked thoughtful. “Well, I go to work between 5 and 5:30 most days. Hence the coffee habit. Takes a lot of caffeine to keep getting up that early. I have an office at the airport where I’m overseeing the engineering of the expansion project. It’s busy, but today was pretty low key. We’re still catching up with the delays from the snow last weekend, but we’re getting there.”

I nodded, impressed. I’d known she was smart and worked hard, but to hear how her days actually went… “Wow, baby. You’re the one in charge of all of it?”

“Well, in charge of this project, at least. I report to a regional manager. He’s coming to town this week. I always enjoyed doing more of the on-the-ground things, but I suppose this is what I’m trained for. I got my engineering degree, then stayed on an extra year at Mines for a master’s in engineering. And then I got my MBA from CU Denver.”

The waiter appeared, and Emma paused as the man rattled off the daily specials. I ordered us the Love Boat—a selection of raw fish to share. A couple waters, too.

As the waiter walked away to put our orders in, I turned back to Emma. “What else? Where do you see yourself in five years? In ten?” I wanted to know all her hopes, her dreams, her fears.

Emma tilted her head to one side. “I’m not sure, career wise. I guess just keep climbing that corporate ladder. And outside of work...I don’t know. Maybe married, maybe kids. Who knows? I just hope for the best. What about you?”

The waiter placed waters in front of each of us. I lifted mine and took a sip. “Well, you know I live at the club. I’m pretty much security, manager, trainer, whatever they need. I order supplies. Stuff like that.”

“How long have you been doing that?” Emma reached for her glass.

“A couple years. Ever since I retired from active duty.”
