Cody was behind the bar, wiping a glass with a cloth. “Hey, Drew. Logan. What can I get you?”

I shook my head. “Logan’s going to take over the bar for the night.”

Cody raised his eyebrows, but didn’t argue.

“You’re going to run the Singles Night. Thanks.”

I caught the two men exchanging glances, but they knew better than to argue with me. I strode back to the front entrance, my focus narrowed to one thing.

20

Emma

Isatonmyliving room couch in a corset and teeny tiny shorts. It was the perfect outfit for Blackstone. Drew would love it.

I couldn’t do this to him, though.

I’d gone through the entire club-night ritual. Face mask, shower, shaveeverywhere, find an outfit. The entire process took a good couple of hours, and the entire time, I’d been thinking about what to do and what to say to Drew.

This promotion was everything I’d worked toward. It came with more money, more responsibility.

More everything, but to get it, I’d have to be based in Portland.

A month ago I’d have jumped at the chance to move to Oregon. Who wouldn’t, right? It was a fun city, with a young, hip vibe. I knew I’d love it there. But now everything about it felt wrong.

Drew had told me only a few days ago that he’d been in this exact situation with his ex, or at least something like it. I’d felt almost smug. Like, I’d never do that to someone like Drew.

And now here I was, not even a full week later, eating my words.

There was a saying my mother used to love, about how you can have everything you want, but not all at once. That pretty much summed it up. I was finally getting closer to what I wanted with Drew. I was finally getting the promotion I’d been dying for at work.

And I couldn’t have both.

I flopped on the couch, suddenly too exhausted to think about going to Blackstone tonight. I put my head on a throw pillow and closed my eyes. When a knock sounded at the door, I ignored it. The last thing the delivery driver needed was an eyeful of me in fetish wear.

The knock came again—louder, more demanding.

Fuck. I sighed and swung my feet back to the floor. I wrapped a robe around myself as I unlocked the deadbolt and pulled open the door to find Drew.

A furious Drew, from his expression.

“Um…hi.” I managed.

Drew’s eyebrow rose. That was never a good sign. “Hi?”

“I mean, that’s usually what people say when they open doors.” I pointed out. I was pretty sure I was digging myself into a hole here.

Drew narrowed his eyes. He stepped past me into the hallway, then walked to the living room without taking off his boots.

“Sit.” Drew pointed to the couch.

I sat. I’d let the boots go for now.

Drew crossed his arms over his broad chest. “What are you doing?”

That wasn’t how I’d expected him to start. “What do you mean? You’re the one at my house.”

Was it possible that his frown got deeper and his eyebrow higher? “Oh, baby. Where to begin.” He stood up and paced in front of me.
