“Yes.”

“I’ll be your tampon from now on.”

She crooked her eyebrow and gave Silas a firm look. “No.”

Taking the water bottle from him, she returned to the bathroom and closed the door. After cleaning herself and slipping into a new pair of pants she returned to the bedroom.

“Will you let me sleep now?” she asked, suppressing a yawn.

“Of course.” Rayen lifted the covers and patted on the mattress next to him.

“We’ll talk about the tampon tomorrow. I don’t like it,” Silas growled out the last words.

“I’m not going to run around dripping blood all over the place.”

His eyes turned a deep, hungry red again. “Why not?”

“Because it clearly makes her uncomfortable,” Rayen came to her rescue.

She climbed into bed and laid her head on Rayen’s chest while Silas stood next to the bed looking down on her. She tilted her head towards him and gave him a stern look.

“If you don’t pull my tampon out and use me as a midnight snack, you may cuddle with me.”

He nodded–though slightly disappointed–and came closer. Amon settled on the armchair by the window with his laptop on his lap. She hoped he didn’t retreat because he was afraid of not being welcomed, but she was too tired to start up another conversation and added it to her to-do-list for the next day.

She woke up before her alarm clock, with her stomach painfully cramping. Some months she was lucky, but others weren’t as nice to her. Especially since she’d gotten off the pill it had worsened. It hadn’t been a voluntary choice, but the cost had been too high and it had always been a hassle to get to one of the clinics to get another batch. She groaned as another cramp tightened and sat up massaging her lower abdomen.

“What is it, little bird?” Rayen asked worriedly.

Silas set his book aside and Amon looked up from the screen.

“Just cramps.”

“You seemed fine last time. Should we get a doctor?” Silas’s voice soaked in concern.

“That is very sweet of you but no. It comes and goes.”

As she climbed over Silas, she kissed his cheek and walked to the bathroom. Searching through her bag she took out an ibuprofen and returned to the bedroom.

Rayen stood up and handed her a glass of water. “Are you sure you’re alright?”

“I can send an email to your employer and tell him you’ll stay home today,” Amon suggested.

She’d never called in sick–not in the past three years.

Rayen must have read her thoughts. “You don’t need to force yourself past bad days anymore. It’s okay to take the time you need.”

“I feel guilty though. It’s not that bad.”

“You’re hurting, so you are staying home where we can look after you.” Silas’s tone made it clear that he wouldn’t accept any other answer.

She nodded and made her way to the kitchen. Rayen was already downstairs and pulled out her usual breakfast. “What else usually helps you when you’re not feeling well?”

“If I’m off work I just get a warm water bottle, eat chocolate, and read a book or watch TV.”

Looking up from his phone, Silas added, “It says here that a warm bath might help.”

She couldn’t help smiling at how soft and adorable he suddenly was.
