“As often as needed.”

“Only to mow the grass or take care of everything else too?”

“All of it.”

“And your budget?”

“Whatever it costs.”

She nodded. “Anything else you will need from me?”

For just a split second his cold façade broke, and she could see something else other than emotional coldness. His eyes softened for a moment before he regained control of his facial features again.

“No, Ms. Moore”

“If anything comes up, I’ll be right outside,” she said with a smile before returning to her office.

She felt relief knowing that he did feel some kind of emotions and only chose to hide them. His distance towards her and most likely everyone in this office was professional, not personal. The professional distance he showcased was probably the strategy that made him so successful.

The rest of the morning Gwen spent compiling a list of gardeners and scheduling the requested meetings for both the Seavey brothers. Her afternoon was packed with meetings and writing summaries of them. For the most part they all were about price discussions for new listings, marketing strategies, and launching parties.

After her last meeting had ended, she went back to the office to finalize the summaries. She wanted to make sure everything was perfect for the next morning when she had to share everything with Mr. Seavey. Just as she was about to finish, Mr. Seavey walked past her office and towards the exit. She waited for him to leave and gave enough time for him to have been able to step into an elevator. The last thing she wanted was to be stuck in a small space with him on her way to the car.

Most people in the office seemed to have left already and so had Claudia. The drive home was long, and she had to blast some music to keep her awake. Of course, as soon as she drove closer towards the Seavey property, she turned it off. The house was completely dark, even though she could see Mr. Seavey’s car parked up front. She quickly walked inside her little apartment and started to heat up her dinner.

She was much more exhausted from the day than she would’ve thought and called it an early night after having dinner. She pulled out her phone and started reading.

The next few days were just like her first. She spent most of her time in meetings and taking notes of all the things that were planned. Mr. Seavey was cold as usual. She understood that he was her boss, but she hoped to at least get some kind of feedback from him as to what she could do better or what she was doing to his liking.

It was Friday, and seemed to be a good day, or at least that’s what her schedule told her. She only had one meeting in the morning and the rest she could do from home.

She stood in her bathroom in front of the mirror fixing her hair, waiting for all of the papers to print that she would have to present to Mr. Seavey in just a few minutes.

In her free time, she loved a messy bun but during work she always braided it to make it look neat and tidy. She quickly slipped on her pumps before grabbing the stack of papers she’d prepared for him. With a knock she opened the door to his office and stepped in with a smile on her face.

“Good morning, Mr. Seavey.”

To her surprise, he wasn’t sitting at the desk. It confused her and messed with her mojo for a split second. She looked around the office and saw him standing by the printer in the corner behind the door. Their eyes met before he grabbed the papers he’d printed and walked back to the desk.

Today he was wearing black pants and a dark gray form-fitting long sleeve shirt. He looked handsome and–as usual–a little too arrogant. If it were up to her, she would make him smile more, brightening up that serious face.

She got a grip of herself and walked over to the desk. “These are the files you asked me to oversee and fill out.” She placed everything on the desk with his schedule on top. “I also forwarded you a few important emails, from Mr. Dwaine and Mrs. Kanaka, they are about the properties in Hunters Village and Rice Village.”

He nodded without further questions.

“I’ll have three gardeners coming tomorrow to give us an estimate on the maintenance of the garden.”

“I’ll make sure to have the gates open.”

He speaks, she thought to herself. “Is there anything you would like me to change next week?”

“Ms. Moore, if there is anything I dislike you would know.”

She turned red. Now he would think she was needy. “Of course.” She turned to leave and was halfway out of the office when his voice stopped her.
