With a quick kiss she felt him pull out and watched him disappear. Before anything could spill on the bed, he returned and handed her a wet cloth and dry towel. She was glad when he turned away and slowly walked to the closet, giving her the privacy to clean up.

“What would you like to wear tonight?”

“Something long-sleeved and some long pants.”

“We try to keep our bodies as warm as we can, but we won’t be able to warm up to human temperature.” It sounded more like an apology rather than a statement.

“I know how to compensate.”

She held his hand as they walked down the stairs and to the kitchen. Looking for a snack, she opened the pantry and looked around.

She barely needed to raise her voice, knowing that Rayen could hear her regardless. “Rayen, when are we leaving tomorrow morning?”

“I thought we should leave at ten so you can see the horses.”

She giggled and turned around with a chocolate bar in her hands. “Is that code for ‘I’ll be scaring the competition’ now?”

He pulled her into a hug his grin slightly evil. “Will we cuddle again tonight?”

“I thought that was standard practice.”

“I just want to make sure you know you can always refuse us.”

“That is very sweet, but not tonight.”

The next morning, Rayen woke her up with a kiss on the cheek. Stretching and yawning, she sat up. She was all alone with Rayen who was holding her breakfast in his hands.

“I thought maybe breakfast in bed today?”

With a grateful smile, she took the plate from him and looked him up and down. He was wearing what she’d chosen for him the day before, matching the dress he'd picked out for her.

“Very handsome.”

He grinned and walked to the closet taking out her outfit for the day. “What shoes would you like with it?”

“Do you mind if I wear the flat ones?”

“Not at all.”

She quickly finished breakfast before disappearing into the bathroom. A little unsure what to do with her hair, she called for Amon, “Amon, can you braid my hair again please?”

He stood behind her instantly. “Of course. How would you like it today?”

“Two braids please. I can do one, just not two.”

He nodded and quickly did as she asked. “We were thinking of flying out to the beach house on Wednesday. Is that alright with you?”

She couldn’t help but smile. “Going on vacation my first week back on the job,” she giggled.

“We would like to keep you in the company a little longer, so we’re trying to sweeten the deal,” he replied amused.

“It’s working very well.”

Rayen was already waiting for her downstairs with Silas by his side. Before following Rayen to the car, she gave both Silas and Amon a goodbye kiss.

“So, is the horse good that you are racing with today?” she asked as she sat in the passenger seat.

“It’s good but not my best. Houston isn’t really a horse racing city.”
