She finished the glass Amon had handed her and moved to stand up. Her body felt somewhat the same as before, though it felt as if she was still sore all over or had been asleep for quite some time. The whole not needing to breathe thing was slightly weirding her out. She constantly had the feeling that she was forgetting something. Her body felt quiet, there was no other word to describe it.

Normally, her heart would be racing, the blood rushing through her body after sex, but not this time. Everything was quiet, there wasn’t a single sound coming from within her, nor did she feel the need to catch her breath.

“How are you feeling?” Amon’s gentle but concerned voice pulled her out of her thoughts.

“A little off, I guess. I’m not in pain or anything, but my throat still hurts, and my body is sore. Not really sore, but rather different. I can’t explain it.”

He gently took her hand, lifted it to his lips, and kissed her lovingly. “There is more blood for you to drink, the thirst will take a while to calm, and your body will soon enough feel like home again.”

She nodded, walked to the bathroom, and stood before the floor-to-ceiling mirror. She only looked slightly different–paler than before, though not as pale as she’d expected. Her hair was a mess and her face still bloody. Though she knew she hadn’t hurt anyone, she couldn’t help but see a shadow or hint of a monster lurking within her–especially when her eyes started to glow with a red shimmer.

Rayen appeared behind her and handed her a wet cloth to clean her face. “Would you like me to run you a bath?”

“Yes please, but I’ll hop under the shower first.”

While Rayen turned on the water in the bathtub, she stepped into the shower. Closing her eyes, she tilted her head towards the water drops and let them massage her skin.

“May I stay?” Rayen’s voice was hesitant and shy.

She opened her eyes and turned to him with a smile. “Always.”

His dark green eyes beamed, and he eagerly reached for the soap as he came closer. While she washed her hair, he started to clean her body. His hands moved gently, with sweet motions over her skin, his lips placing kisses here and there.

He disappeared for a moment, and she opened her eyes again to see that he was turning off the water in the tub. She smiled and stepped out of the shower, moving towards the steaming tub. Rayen helped her inside and kissed her before leaving the bathroom.

Though she loved all three of them, she also enjoyed a little time to herself. She closed her eyes and could hear the ocean’s waves, and Amon and Rayen talking. It was about something that had happened in the office, so Gwen quickly concentrated on the waves again. After a while, she felt the water cool down. Though it didn’t really bother her, so she stayed in the tub until footsteps approached and Rayen’s rain-soaked scent wrapped around her.

“I just wanted to make sure you were okay,” he whispered as he kneeled next to the tub, placing a kiss on her cheek.

“I am. I was just listening to the waves.”

He chuckled slightly, his eyes glowing amused. “I was about to ask you if you wanted to cook dinner with me. Or maybe have a snack?”

“I’ll miss cooking with you.” She reached her hand up and cupped his face. “Somehow I feel like I lost something that was dear to my heart.”

“I don’t feel the same,” he admitted, rubbing his cheek against her palm. “It was never about the act of cooking. Rather time with you, and that I gained plenty of.”

His words warmed her heart. “That is true.”

“How about we test your new abilities and go out for a swim?”

“More like a dive,” she giggled lightly and stood up. “With or without a bikini?”

“We both know what I prefer.”

“True,” she said as she imagined the warm water playing with her ankles.

Confused, she looked around because the image she’d just pictured wasn’t just imagination anymore. Faster than she could blink, she stood at the edge of the beach, the warm water splashing up her legs. Rayen laughed next to her and even Amon’s sweet chuckle was close by.

“What happened?” she asked, still confused on how she’d gotten into the water so fast.

Silas walked towards her, grinning. “Fast speed, remember?”

“I walked here?”

“More like ran,” Rayen laughed, on her other side.

“But I didn’t do anything.”
