“I’m so sorry, Gwendoline.”

“It’s fine.”

She gave Rayen one of her sweet beams before looking out the window again. Her heart was still racing, but not as fast as before. Watching the clouds seemed to relax her. They stayed silent for quite some time. She most likely didn’t want to cross a line, not with Amon sitting in the back and Rayen not wanting to push her even further.

She seemed to like Rayen, seemed to relax when talking to him–not like when she was with Amon. Silas hated how Amon called her by her surname. They all knew he adored her just as much as Silas and Rayen, yet he made her feel beneath him. Some days it didn’t seem to bother her, others she seemed unsettled by his behavior and Silas hated seeing it.

After a while she turned her head back to them, her eyes moving between Rayen and him. “Where in L.A. are we staying?”

“In Bel Air.”

Her eyes widened at Rayen’s words, probably not expecting that.

“Unless that doesn’t please you?”

“Not at all.”

She wanted to say something else, but the plane fell into a small airhole, and she squirmed instead. Her heart skipped a few beats, pounding against her ribcage. She held her breath and quickly looked around. When she realized it was only her panicking, her heart sped up even more and blood filled her cheeks, turning them a rosy pink. He couldn’t help but grin at the sight. It was adorable seeing her like that.

“I’m sorry,” she quickly apologized.

“No need. Would you like a drink? I’m sure it will help calm your nerves,” Rayen asked

Her eyes flickered to Amon sitting behind them. “No, I’ll be fine.”

“Just a little maybe?”

Her eyes were still glued to Amon. Silas turned his head and watched as he gave a curt nod.

“Sure,” she said, still breathless.

“Wonderful.” Rayen got up and walked to the bar.

“Why did you need to know where we are staying?”

Silas didn’t know what else to ask that wasn’t too personal. She probably wouldn’t have minded Rayen asking her any further personal questions, but she and him had barely exchanged a few words.

Her eyes on him, her face slowly softened and relaxed. “I just wanted to see how far away I’ll be from everything.”

“Do you already have plans for Sunday?” Rayen handed her a glass with red wine.

“I’m still debating.”

“We will provide a car for you. No need to hang around in the house on your free day,” Rayen said lightly.

“Thank you.”

Silas disliked her leaving the house. He hated when she left because that also meant her scent and delicious heartbeat was no longer around. He had gotten used to her sounds echoing through the house and missed them when she was gone.

“What were you debating on doing?” he asked curiously, but also trying to disguise his disapproval.

“I guess the usual stuff, like the sunset strip with all the stars or the Hollywood sign, but I heard it’s not that spectacular.”

“The weather is beautiful this time of year. Maybe a beach day would be good?” Rayen suggested.

“I might do that. I’ve never been to a real beach, and I don’t think Galveston counts as one.”

Silas chuckled, which she seemed to like. Her eyes started glowing as she looked at him. She bit her lip as she realized what she was doing and quickly looked away. He grew hard instantly. Every time he saw her do that, he wanted to devour her. Not with his fangs, but rather his lips.
