“You could’ve bought out the whole store.”

“It felt like that’s what Katharina wanted me to do.”

He stopped by her bedroom door and watched as she laid the dresses on the bed. When she turned back around his eyes were glued to the bed. Her cheeks instantly felt hot, remembering what she’d done the night before. She quickly walked out, and she could hear him close the door behind them.

“Why didn’t you buy the whole store?”

“Why would I? I only needed one dress.”

“Ah, Gwendoline, you’re back. Was Katharina able to find you something?” Rayen came walking down the stairs.

“She only bought three dresses,” Silas answered for her, his tone slightly accusing.

His attitude bothered her. Shouldn’t he be grateful she didn’t spend all his money on stupid dresses?

“I went there for one dress and came back with three. Shouldn’t that be more than enough?” It sounded much snappier than she wanted it to be, so she turned around and softened her face. “I really don’t need more.”

They both seemed amused.

“Of course, Gwendoline. We just didn’t want you to feel like you had to hold back,” Rayen explained.

“If it pleases you, I can go back and buy the whole store.”

Silas leaned closer, his lips twitching as he smirked down at her. “But would that please you?”

Only now she noticed that Silas had never called her by her name. Rayen seemed to enjoy using it, she assumed it was to annoy Amon. She cringed slightly, even though he wasn’t there.

“No.”

“Then there is no need to go back and buy everything,” Rayen chuckled. “Well, I’m sure you want to enjoy your lunch break and we won’t bother you any longer.” He turned to leave but stopped in his tracks. “We only have one office here and without Amon you may use that. Yet again, the weather is gorgeous outside, you’re more than welcome to work out there. No need to hide in the house.”

Not wanting to use Amon’s office, she sat outside in the amazing backyard. Someone must come by every once in a while to maintain it. The grass was neatly cut, the flowers well taken care of, and so was the pool. There was a small sitting arrangement off to the side of the house where she made herself comfortable in the shade. As usual, she sat on the floor placing all her work things in front of her, along with her milkshake and fries.

She went through her emails, while also planning the next week for them all. It wasn’t much, or at least it didn’t feel like it while soaking in the good weather. Mr. Seavey sent a few messages throughout the day wanting her to take care of a few scheduling issues for the next week. Closer to the evening she heard him come home and talk to Rayen.

Since he was back, she packed up her things and made her way back inside. They were standing in the kitchen with wine glasses in their hands, Silas nowhere in sight.

She quickly threw away her trash and made her way back to her room. With Mr. Seavey back, she didn’t feel comfortable enough to be outside, not wanting to upset him. She sat down in one of the armchairs in the master bedroom and started reading until she could no longer ignore her aching stomach.

As quietly as possible, she walked to the kitchen and opened the fridge. Not wanting to be stuck in the kitchen for long, she pulled out a few ingredients for a sandwich and salad. She placed all of it on the island and started preparing her meal. She saw movement out of the corner of her eye that made her turn her head. Silas came closer and leaned against the wall. His eyes looked down on her curiously.

She looked back down on her dinner. Desperate to break the awkward silence between them, she said, “There is more food in the fridge.”

“I’ll eat later,” he replied in a husky voice.

She shrugged her shoulders and returned everything to the fridge before curiously opening the pantry. Just like the fridge, it was overflowing. She found some chocolate and turned back to the counter. Silas was still standing in his spot eyeing her.

“Will you be joining us tomorrow?” she asked, uncomfortable with the tension building up between them.

“If that’s what you want.”

If she wanted? What was that supposed to mean? He was her boss. What did she have to do with his decision making? She was intrigued though. Unlike with Rayen, she couldn’t read Silas. He was attractive no doubt, but his personality was a mystery for her. She was far from wanting him to know that though, so she shrugged her shoulders and grabbed her dinner.

As she walked around the island, he grinned at her. “Have a good evening.”

His face was slightly mischievous and there was something knowing about it. As if he knew a secret, a secret he seemed to enjoy a little too much.

Her face felt hot right away, remembering what she’d done the night before. There was no way he knew though. She’d been quiet, muffled her moans with her pillow. With a burning face she quickly walked to her room, unable to say a word.
