“I don’t enjoy hurting her.”

“Then why do it? She hasn’t done anything wrong, yet here you are treating her like shit. She is so fucking afraid of you firing her that she won’t even talk to Rayen and me anymore.”

“You both know she can’t stay with us.”

“You brought her to us and now you are torturing her. If you don’t want her here, then let us have her.” Amon hadn’t seen Rayen this angry in a hundred years. He’d calmed down a lot but right now his old self was about to reemerge.

“It was a mistake; I should’ve never let her be part of our life.”

“And now you’re punishing her for your mistakes.” Silas fangs had descended, his fingernails turning to claws. The fighter in him was coming out, wanting to protect Gwendoline.

“She needs to go, and you both know it. She can’t stay with us.”

“That doesn’t mean you have to torment her.” Rayen hated him and Amon knew he had every right to do so.

Walking over to the couch, Amon let himself fall. “She doesn’t deserve this, and it’s breaking me to be so awful to her but if I don’t keep her at a distance, I know I won’t be able to let her go.”

Rayen slightly relaxed and sighed. “None of us want to let her go.”

“We have to, though. She can’t stay here.”

“Why not?” Silas only stiffened as he knew where this conversation was going.

“Because she is human, Silas.”

“Who cares?”

“She can’t know about us, and you know that.”

“And why is that? Who knows, maybe she wants us to turn her too.”

“And what if not? What if she doesn’t take the news well?”

To Amon’s surprise, Rayen came to his rescue. Although his voice was still full of disapproval, he said, “We can’t risk it.”

Silas looked at Rayen as if he’d betrayed him. “Fuck you too. Now you’re on his side?”

“He has a point, Silas. I don’t like how Amon is treating her, but we can’t risk exposure.”

“So, we’re just gonna throw her on the street like trash and pretend she never existed?”

“I’m sure Amon already has something planned, don’t you?”

“I already have something set up for her. She’ll be taken care of.”

“We can take care of her far better than anyone else can,” Silas growled.

“We can give her money and possessions, but we could never please her,” Amon tried to calm him.

“Maybe you can’t,” Silas barked back.

Rayen chuckled before he turned serious again. “Silas, I hate losing her, but Amon is right. We could give her everything she could ever ask for, but she can’t be with us. Not like that.”

“She can and you know it. We’ve all fucked humans before.”

“One of us hasn’t.” Rayen’s face turned to Amon with an evil grin. “But you and I both know why we didn’t keep those women. We fucked, fed, and disposed of their bodies. Even if we don’t want to, we could hurt Gwendoline.”

“She is leaving us. If you like it or not.”
