“What about us? You look like fucking death. Do you believe letting her go is the best option?”

“Yes, Silas.”

Rayen disappeared and returned with two glasses filled to the rim. He held one out to Amon, but he refused, shaking his head.

“If you don’t fucking drink this I’ll force it down your petty little throat.”

Rayen’s mood had changed. He’d gone from sad and pained to angry and forceful. As soon as the blood touched Amon’s lips, he gulped it all down in seconds. While Rayen forced the second glass on him Silas turned around.

“Fuck both of you. If we weren’t already dead, I would wish hell upon you.”

“We’re already in hell,” Amon growled after him.

He didn’t care and returned to downtown where he waited all day for Gwen to come out of the building. Noon passed and so did the late afternoon but still no Gwen to be seen. As he was about to go search for her, she came out of the building. She looked tired, her hair up in a messy bun as she quickly threw on her cardigan. Suddenly she started running towards the bus stop, where her bus had just started to drive off again.

He could hear her frustrated sigh as she watched the bus drive off. She pulled out her phone and angrily started typing. Another frustrated sound later she started walking opposite of the bus stop.

His muscles stiffened. It was already late, the streets were becoming dark, and she was walking right into the part of downtown that no woman should ever have to walk alone. Keeping his distance, he rushed after her on the opposite side of the street.

She was walking fast. It seemed as if she was trying to catch up to something. She rushed around the next corner and disappeared out of his view. If it weren’t for the group of humans coming towards him, he would’ve gone into vampire mode and chased after her. But a man disappearing into thin air wouldn’t be easy to explain, especially when half of the group had their phones out. It was too risky.

He ran across the street at a normal human speed. Turning on the street, his throat knotted, and his stomach dropped. Her scent was lingering in the air, but his eyes couldn’t find her. A faint whimper from down the street made him run towards her.

All caution was forgotten as a second painful and muffled whimper reached him. She needed him, and he would do anything without care to make sure she was unharmed.

Gwendoline

Gwen was stomping along the pavement, running towards the central bus stop downtown to get the last bus home. Usually, she would try to avoid that part of town, but she had no other option if she wanted to get home. She was mad at herself for missing the last bus on a Friday evening.

She was deep in her thoughts when suddenly, she was tugged to the side. Large, rough hands clenched her arm, painfully dragging her into a dark alley between two large buildings. She opened her mouth to scream, but a massive hand smacked over it.

“You better not make a fucking sound, bitch,” a deep, gritty voice whispered in her ear as something cold and sharp was held against her throat.

She was pulled further into the dark where she could hear a muffled grunt and a dark lustful laugh.

The man dragging her backwards forced her to the ground, with what she assumed was a knife still pointing at her throat. Another man came into her view. He stood between her legs kicking them apart as he opened his belt. With a grin so disgusting she wanted to throw up, he kneeled between her knees.

“Look at you, and your tiny skirt. Made yourself pretty for us today, huh?”

She whimpered as he pushed her skirt up, revealing her bare thighs. She kicked towards him as she tried to push him off, only for the knife to break her skin. The man grabbed her legs and squeezed them so hard, she knew he would leave marks. She whimpered again, her noise dampened by the hand on her mouth.

Her eyes caught a movement just behind the man kneeling between her thighs. Her heart skipped a beat as she stared up at those gorgeous blue eyes. Silas’s face darkened as he looked down on her, and with the dim light coming from the street behind him it looked as if a demonic shadow had been laid over his face. His eyes slowly transitioned from blue to a bright, ominous red.

She gasped and tried to look closer, but he was gone. One second he’d stood there, the next he’d disappeared. Before she could grasp what had happened to him, the man in front of her let out a gruesome, gurgling, wet sound. Blood dripped from his mouth, his body swaying, his eyes losing their life essence.

Her eyes dropped to his chest. Where his heart should’ve been was now a large, gaping hole. She could see right through him. She screamed as his lifeless body swayed toward her. Though instead of dropping on her, his body lifted in the air, and her eyes fell on Silas.

He was holding the dead man by his neck in one hand and with the other held his still beating heart. Silas’s eyes were fixed on something behind her. Throwing the body and heart aside, he stepped closer. His lips twitching into an evil grin, he bent down and reached behind her.

Only now she realized that the man who’d been holding her was no longer pressing his hand on her mouth nor the knife to her throat. She scrambled to the side and looked back, regretting it instantly.

Silas was digging his claw-like fingers into the man’s throat. The man had dropped the knife and was trying to claw his way out from Silas’s grip. With his fingers deep in the man’s throat, Silas pulled his arm back, ripping the flesh from the man’s body. She screamed again as blood splattered in her direction.

Shuffling back, her stomach clenched, and she threw up everything she’d eaten that evening. Tears running down her cheeks, she couldn’t help but gag. Even after she’d emptied her stomach, she continued to spit up bile. Her whole body was shaking, her heart racing so fast it hurt.
