“It’s not that bad. I’ve lived in worse.”

“Fuck that, you’re not coming back here. Not without any of us with you.”

Somehow, that flattered her. He wanted her safe and she liked the feeling of someone protecting her. She’d been fighting alone for so long that knowing he had her back took a huge weight off her shoulders. He walked close behind her, his hand on her neck, though it didn’t feel controlling.

“Which one is it, little bird?”

She pointed at a building to their left. “Building three, Apartment 119.”

With all three of them in her studio, it felt a little cramped. Silas looked around and seemed to hate each and every inch of her home. She disappeared into the closet and quickly changed into her own clothes. Once fully dressed, she opened the door again so she could talk to them.

Rayen sat on the bed, where he had patiently waited for her to reappear from the closet. “Is the furniture yours too?”

“No, I leased it with the apartment.” She started packing some clothes, walking in and out of the closet.

“For how long is the lease?”

“Six months.”

“Would you like to keep it for that time frame and live with us as a trial?”

“Living with us is not a trial.” Silas really wasn’t in a good mood.

“Maybe she’ll get tired of your grumpiness and the possessive impulses you’re showing,” Rayen barked back at him.

She turned to Silas just in time to see hurt paint his face. Rayen’s words had struck him deep. Their eyes met, insecurity and fear radiating from his. She sighed, sat on the bed next to Rayen, and patted the mattress on her other side. Silas was by her side within an instant. Quiet and hesitant, Amon came closer too.

“I like the idea of living in the mansion again, but I’m not ready to give up the apartment.”

“There is no need for it.” Amon’s voice was soft just like it had been the night before when he’d been sitting next to her on the couch. “If you wish to have a place of your own, we won’t keep you from it. You’re more than welcome to live with us but we understand that sometimes you might want your own space and return here.” He looked at Silas. “We might not like it, but we want you to be comfortable around us,” Amon ended.

“Thank you.”

“We know this is a lot to take in and we’re not exactly what you’ve expected, little bird, so please tell us if there is anything that you don’t feel comfortable with.”

Rayen’s pet name gave her chills. “I really like when you call me that and I don’t want you to feel like you have to hide who you are.”

“Thank you, that means a lot to all of us.” Rayen took her hand, lifted it to his lips and kissed her knuckles.

She couldn’t help but giggle lovingly at his gesture. It was so adorable and sweet that a cozy feeling spread throughout her heart.

“Where are your books?” Silas asked, slightly disappointed as he looked around.

She pointed at the few she had in one of the built-in shelves and turned red. “I never had much money to buy more, and I moved around so much they would’ve been too heavy to carry with me. I read on my phone.”

“I bought a few romance books,” he confessed bashfully. His dominant demeanor had quieted down, showing off his softer side.

“Did you like them?”

He looked at her, his deep blue eyes sad and heavy. “I read them after you left, and they just hurt.”

“I’m sorry.”

“You two should read some together later,” Amon suggested before looking around. “Is there anything else you would like to take with you?”

“Not if we stop at the store. I can get shampoo and such there. I was supposed to go grocery shopping anyway, so my fridge is empty too.”

Rayen got up and grabbed the bag she’d packed. “If there is anything you ever need just let us know.”
