“How do you like the bullet I picked out for you?” Brynn said while she flipped up a seat compartment and grabbed a container of baby wipes. She handed us all one as we wiped off, then readjusted our clothes.
“You chose it?”
“It’s one of my faves.” She winked at me. “By how flushed your face is, I’m guessing you really like it.”
Holden chuckled, then kissed me hard. “This is just the beginning of the night, babe.”
My eyes widened, and I laughed. “I’m going to sleep good tonight.”
The limo filled with laughter and chatter the rest of the way downtown. A few months ago, I wouldn’t have been ready for what had happened, but I’d been in therapy for a while, working through the abuse from Dan and Barrett. Maybe some girls wouldn’t have hopped back into the sex, but I was a fighter. I loved Holden with all my heart, and our sex life was important to me. Not only did the sex and play help me heal, but it was also a big fat fuck you to Opal and Kassandra.
Although those sick bitches were still on the run, Pierce had let us know the instant Becky-Michelle had been taken into custody. I didn’t think she’d survive long, especially not after selling children. Worst case scenario, she would serve the rest of her life in a cell behind bars. The irony hadn’t escaped me. Honestly, I was fine either way.
The evening was a rush as I was introduced to investors and clients. Every man at the club glanced at my necklace, gave me a slight nod, then moved on. The choker provided a sense of security, which I needed.
Holden turned on the bullet several more times. It was an all-new challenge to hide what was happening. He liked to mess with me and flip the switch on the remote when I was in the middle of a conversation. Over the evening, I was able to control my reaction better. Once I had to walk away and pretend that I had to use the restroom. Holden had met me near the bathroom, slipped his hand beneath my dress, and massaged my clit until I lost it. He was loving the power play, but I was, too.
After ordering drinks, Brynn and I sat down at a table in the corner of the room.
“Hey,” I said, tapping her on the leg. “Isn’t that Sutton and Pierce?”
“It is! I’m so glad they made it!” Her expression slipped, and she grabbed my arm. “Oh. My. God. It’s Hendrix and Gemma from August Clover.” Brynn squealed. “They’re both drop dead fucking gorgeous.”
“No shit. I wonder why they’re here, though.” It appeared that I was about to get my answer.
Pierce, Sutton, Zayne, Vaughn, a stunning blonde next to him, and a few others waltzed over to our table.
“You look amazing, and the club is incredible!” Sutton yelled over the DJ.
I stood and hugged Sutton, then Pierce. “I’m so glad you all made it!” Sutton wore a gold, glittery, fitted dress and black heels. She had legs for days, just like Brynn.
Sutton leaned in near my ear. “I would like you to meet a few people.”
I waved at Brynn to get her ass closer to hear the introductions.
“This is Cade, August Clover’s guitarist and his fiancée, Mackenzie.”
“Mac for short,” the pretty, petite girl said.
“Nice to meet you both.” Cade stuck out his hand, and Brynn, then I, shook it.
“You two know Vaughn, and this is Claire, my sister and Vaughn’s fiancée.”
Before I could react, Claire bundled me up in a big hug. “I can’t wait to get together sometime. Sutton has told me a little about what you went through. I’ll give you my cell number.”
With building the club and our home, it had been hit-and-miss trying to get together with Claire and the others Sutton had wanted me to meet.
I grabbed my clutch from my seat and gave her my phone.
“Call me any time, day or night.” She waved as she stepped away.
“Thank you! I will.” I offered her a warm smile.
“And don’t forget. We’re no longer victims or survivors. We’re strong women that pieced our lives together after assaults. We’re queens.” She winked at me, then she hugged Brynn.
“I’m sure you both know Hendrix and Gemma from August Clover,” Sutton said.
I full-on gawked at them. Glancing at Brynn, I laughed. I hadn’t seen her speechless before, but it appeared she was at the moment.
