I pondered his suggestion for a moment. “I don’t know what guidelines to try.”
“I would recommend that we start as observers. At any time, we can leave the room. If you’re not comfortable after a few minutes, then that’s it. No pressure, babe. I realize this is all a new experience for you.”
I wondered how I’d managed to fall for someone that was so patient with me. “What about tomorrow night?” My voice hovered above a whisper as my pulse skyrocketed.
Holden pinned me with his stare, and I assumed he was searching for any signs that I wasn’t ready to try it. “I’ll reserve the room for us. If you change your mind, then we’ll find another way to celebrate.”
“Okay.” Overwhelmed with gratitude that he continued to allow me to explore without any judgment, I leaned up and kissed him. His mouth parted, and he gently sucked on my tongue, my scent still on his lips from earlier.
“Holden?”
“Yeah, babe.” He nuzzled my neck and nipped at my ear.
“It’s working.” I tilted my head, allowing him better access to the sensitive skin.
“What is?” Holden’s kisses dotted my collarbone and I shuddered.
I leaned in close to his ear. “I’m falling for you.”
Chapter Twenty-Four
Holden looked up, our gaze connecting. I placed his hand on my chest.
“You’re falling for me like … as in the boy next door who is hot?” He lifted a brow at me, a playful grin spreading across his handsome face.
I laughed softly, appreciating that he was allowing me to ease into this conversation. “No.”
He brushed his mouth against mine. “As in … you think about me all the time, miss me when I’m not with you, and can’t wait until you see me again?”
I nodded. “Like that.”
“It’s the same for me.” He smoothed my hair, then placed his palm on my chest. “Your heart is racing, River.”
“I know. That’s what you do to me.”
Holden rubbed my cheek with his thumb, his features growing serious. “That’s good, River, because I’m already in love with you.”
“What?” My brows knitted together. “You are?”
He peered right inside me, setting my world on fire. “Madly, insanely, and crazily in love with you.”
Every steel wall I’d built around myself shattered at his words. My body trembled from the intensity of how much I cared about him. It scared the shit out of me, but he’d proven over and over that his feelings had nothing to do with Hannah. With him, I felt as though I came first with someone and that I was the center of his universe.
“Make love to me, Holden. Show me how much you love me.” Tears blurred my vision as my emotions started to free fall through space and time.
“Are you sure?” His intense gaze probed mine for permission.
“Yes.” Raw need surged through my body, but now my feelings were involved, which intensified my desire for him.
Holden rolled over, opened the nightstand drawer, and removed a condom. He ripped the foil packet open, then slid it over his erection. My eyes followed his every movement.
“I want to make sure you’re ready.” His hand danced between my thighs, his fingers slickening with my juices. Holden massaged my clit in gentle circles as I lifted my hips, needing more. Needing all of him.
I parted my legs, allowing him better access.
Holden hovered over me. The muscles in his biceps bulged as he stayed there, searching for any signs of fear or resistance. “You’re sure?” he asked.
I leaned up and kissed him deeply, our tongues tangling as I was once again swept up in the moment with him. “Please don’t make me wait any longer.” I nipped his lower lip and he moaned softly.
