Whack. A scream tore from my throat as the impact rendered me helpless. Stars danced in front of my eyes as I started to slip away from reality. If this was it, I had one thing to say to my captor before I left this screwed-up world.

“Fuck … you ...” The darkness beckoned to me, urging me to give in as she welcomed me into her arms.

Drip.

Drip.

Drip.

The steady sound reached my ears, and I struggled to open my eyes against the pounding in my head. Holy shit, I was alive. Hope bloomed in my chest. I had to find Holden. He was in danger.

A thin ray of light filtered through a crack in the ceiling, and I sat up slowly, attempting to make out my surroundings. A shiver ran up my spine, and I rubbed my arms as my gaze swept the nearly dark space.

“What the fuck?” My words fell flat, and I jumped to my feet as I searched the small room: dirt ceiling and dirt floors. I banged against the wall with my fist, pain shooting through my arm. Where the hell was I? My toes dug into the soil, the shock of my environment finally sinking in. No! No! No! I struggled to breathe, and the smell of the fresh earth tickled my nose.

I was trapped. Underground. Naked.

I pushed up on my tiptoes and tried to reach the cellar door, but it was no use. I frantically searched the space for any stairs or tools, but it had been stripped clean.

“Help! Someone please help me!” My head pounded while I waited for a response. Nothing.

Images rushed through my mind as I recalled nearly drowning and remembered the two additional people who were in the room other than the person attempting to kill me, watching as I struggled to survive.

A cold sweat rippled over me, and my pulse hammered, making me feel like I was going to pass out. How the hell had I made such a stupid, emotional decision to ditch Zayne? The horror of my mistake glared at me, and I placed a hand over my stomach. Oh God, the baby.

“Holden,” I whimpered. “Holden! I’m so sorry!” Panic swelled up inside me, my chest aching. My knees buckled, and I sank to the cold floor, sobs wracking my body. I sucked in a deep breath, then screamed. It tore from my lungs, scraped through my throat, and shattered my soul.

Holden’s search for River leads to dark, evil secrets, and heart wrenching moments in Beautifully Broken.

Beautifully Broken

Beautifully Damaged Series Book Two

Prologue

The sunlight glinted off River’s brown hair as she stood, her hands framing her slender hips. Excitement rippled in the air as our penthouse's first pieces of furniture were unloaded from the delivery truck.

I was ecstatic, not only because our place was finally ready, but because River had agreed to go to New York with me and turn an existing club into another 4 Play. At one time, I’d been thrilled about expanding, but honestly, as long as she was by my side, I’d be happy anywhere. She was my future.

“What do you think?” I slipped my arm around her waist as we eyed the black Italian leather couch that the men had unloaded in front of us on the loading dock. The walnut dining table caught my attention. I was counting the minutes until I could pick her up, place her on the edge, and eat River for dinner.

“It’s all beautiful.” She grinned at me, and my heart jumped. “You’re beautiful.”

“This is just the beginning, babe.” I leaned down and pressed my mouth against hers. “I can’t wait to make love to you in our bed. Then I’m going to bend you over and fuck you on every possible surface of our new home,” I whispered against her ear.

River discreetly grabbed my ass, and I nearly moaned as her tongue darted over her lower lip.

“What if I’m a bad girl?” She peered at me through her eyelashes, and my cock pushed against my jeans, ready to be freed and buried deep inside her. I could almost taste her sweet pussy on my lips and tongue.

“I hope you are. I have a surprise for you later.”

A flicker of regret danced across her features, then morphed into relief. “Surprises used to suck, but I love yours.” River leaned against me, and I pulled her closer.

She placed her hand on my chest and smiled. “Holden, I need to go to the bathroom. I’ll be right back.”

“Okay, babe.”

She kissed me on the cheek and walked away, my gaze landing on the soft sway of her hips and the curve of her ass. Not only was River physically beautiful, but I loved her heart. Her mind. Her fight. And I was the lucky son of a bitch she slept next to at night.
