“Come and wait inside. He won’t be long.”

Stepping around him, I walk in and find there aren’t many people around. I recognise Mayhem and force a smile when he tips his chin. I don’t miss the look he gives to Chaos behind me.

“You want a drink?” Chaos asks.

“No, thank you.”

Mayhem kicks out a chair for me. Slipping down onto it, I clutch my handbag strap in my fist, my nerves getting the better of me.

“She’s waiting for Psy,” Chaos mumbles, typing something on his phone. No doubt he’s messaging Louis to let him know I’m here.

My heart’s racing, but I need answers, or I won’t be able to get on with my day. If Lexi is telling the truth, I have no idea where it leaves Louis and me. The thought of him integrating himself into my life the way she said he did… it’s just creepy.

“How’s your boy?” Chaos asks.

“He’s fine. He’s at school.”

“Psy said you were visiting Lexi this morning. Is she okay? Is there something we should know?” Mayhem enquires.

I wish Louis would hurry up.

“I just need to speak to Louis,” is all I say. This isn’t their business.

They share another look and I close my eyes, hoping to keep my tears from escaping.

When the roar of a motorcycle arriving hits our ears, Chaos taps the table, announcing, “He’s here.”

Clinging to my handbag, I get to my feet and take a deep breath. Within moments, Louis barrels through the door, concern etched on every inch of his face.

He reaches me and goes to take my hand, but I step back. I don’t want him touching me until I have my answers.

“What the fuck…?”

I see the questions flashing in his eyes, but I also see fear. I was curious this morning as to why he seemed tense when he learned I was visiting his sister, and now, it all makes sense.

Everything Lexi told me is true. He didn’t want me seeing her and finding it out.

“Evie, what’s going on?”

“You’ve been lying to me all this time. It was never Lexi helping me. You had her lie and pretend to be my friend so you could get close to me.”

I hear a heavy sigh from behind me, but I’m solely focused on the man in front of me—the man I thought I could see myself spending the rest of my life with.

“Let me take you home and we can talk.”

“No. Until we figure out where we go from here, I don’t want you around my home.”

“What do you mean, ‘where we go from here’?” he asks.

“What I mean, Psycho, is that right this minute, I don’t even know if I want you around me or my son ever again.”

He gracefully moves closer to me, and before I can step away, he cups his hand around the back of my neck.

“We’re going to talk, but we are not over.”

The intensity in his voice causes me to tense.

“Psy…” Mayhem drawls, getting out of his seat.
