“I feel you, sister,” I murmur. I wonder who’s worse: Beast or a triad member who plans to kill me?

At the sound of footsteps, I turn around. Rafe, with Chung and the bald guy behind him, approaches me. Rafe looks sharp in his charcoal suit, dark purple shirt and black silk tie. His gaze sweeps over me, lingering on my shoes with the hole.

“You have new clothes,” he tells me.

“I didn’t want to assume...” I say.

He lifts a brow. “Did you think they were for Vladimir?”

“Of course not, but I didn’t ask for clothes. And even if I did, the clothes that are in my room seem way too nice to be affordable.”

“You plan on wearing your current clothes for a week?”

“I plan on getting to leave soon,” I reply. “I’m sure Alessandro will have gotten a hold of my brother, and he’s probably headed back to the Bay Area right now, if he isn’t here already.”

“Did you drink your tea?”

I glance down at my feet. “No.”

“You were supposed to drink at least one cup.”

“It—I’m not used to the taste.”

“A nice guest would do what they are told.”

Right. He’d said something about that at dinner last night.

He walks up to me and stands inches away, invading my space. “I don’t give warnings twice. Don’t disobey me again.”

Even though I want to put distance between us, I find it hard to move. From the look in his eyes, I regret not having had the damn tea.

CHAPTER SEVEN

Rafe takes me by thearm. He jerks his head at his two men, who stay behind. Rafe walks me back to my room, where he dumps the remaining tea in my cup and pours a fresh one. I take a sip. It tastes worse than before.

“It’s cold,” I say.
