“We’re twins. We couldn’t be closer.”

“Has he ever lied to you before?”

I hesitate, thinking about Peter’s omission about the triad connection in our latest heist, but I answer firmly, “Not on anything important.”

“So the answer is yes, hehaslied to you before.”

“He wouldn’t about this.”

“Do you love each other?”

That’s a strange question, but I reply, “Of course.”

“And he was the last one to be in possession of the Morelli.”

Are they going to go after Peter? I worry. I think through how easy or hard it would be for them to track my brother down.

Rafe looks to Chung and nods. Chung steps over to Alessandro and punches him so hard he might have gotten whiplash as he falls to his knees.

“That’s for being tardy with the painting,” Rafe explains.

Chung kicks Alessandro in the ribs while he’s down, knocking him onto his back. I stifle a scream.

“That’s for hiring cheap thieves,” Rafe says. “Now get up.”

Holding his left side, Alessandro manages to hobble onto his feet.

“Stand straight, you piece of shit.”

Alessandro does his best to comply. Chung does a round kick, striking Alessandro in the mouth. Blood sprays onto the floor. I feel sick to my stomach.

“That was for amusement,” Rafe says. “Now, you’ve got seven days to get the Morelli to me or you’re all dead.”

He looks over at me. I don’t want to have Alessandro’s bloody face in my line of vision, but I have to look in that direction because I need to keep an eye on Chung or Rafe, in case I’m the next target. I probably don’t stand a chance against them, but I’m not going down without a fight.

“And just in case this Peter gets any imprudent ideas that he can get away from me,” Rafe continues, “I’m keeping Priscilla as collateral.”
