I have to get Diana to a safe place because there's no way of knowing who the shooter's target is.

Whoever they are, they have balls for them to start shooting at a mafia wedding.

All of the higher-ups come with bodyguards.

I don't, because I don't want someone following me around all the time.

I like having my privacy. My father isn't happy about it, but he's stopped trying to get me to see "sense."

"My dad," she starts, and I know what she's going to say.

"I saw him moving behind the cobble wall. He didn't look shot."

I don't know if that will stay that way, but she's my concern, not her father.

Her father has essentially sold her off to mine.

As far as I'm concerned, he deserves to be shot in the stomach and slowly bleed to death.

I open the door and do a quick scan of the area, but when I don't spot any threat, I guide her outside, and we run over to my car.

I hit the unlock button and open the passenger door.

She ducks inside, and I run to the driver's side and slide in.

I hit the ignition button, never taking my eyes off the horizon as the car comes to life.

I don't see anyone, so the shooter has to be focused on the back of the vineyard, a small miracle with us being sitting ducks in my car.

I throw it into drive and speed out of the parking lot.

I turn right and just hear the soft sirens in the background.

"Shouldn't we be staying to check on the victims and speak to the police?" she asks with a shaky voice.

A swift look at her shows me the tremble within her body.

I undo the three buttons on my suit jacket before sliding my arms out of it and holding it out to her.

"Here, I need you to try and take a few deep breaths for me. It'll help calm your body down."

"There was a shooter. Someone was shooting at us," she says, in utter shock.

I know it's going to take her some time for her mind to process what happened.

She wouldn't have gone through something like this before, and I wish I could have protected her from this trauma.

"It's going to be ok. We are going to drive around for a bit and wait for someone to call me to let me know if it's safe to go back to the house. This wouldn't have been from you or your family, it's completely on mine."

"You have enemies that want to try and kill you all on a wedding day?" she asks, both shocked and skeptical.

It's clear no one has actually told her what she's getting into.

Which makes sense, her father wouldn't have wanted her to try and run away if she knew how dangerous being my wife would be.

"And funerals. Any family gathering where most of the higher-ups and their families will be gathered together. It's why the vineyard was picked for the wedding location. It's out of the way, and you can see for miles all around you."

"Then where did the shooter come from? I didn't see anyone."
