The only way forward is to reach the safehouse and take it from there.

Diana stirs slightly, and I freeze.

Don't wake up, not yet.

I'm not ready to tell you how much danger we're in.

I exhale slowly when she settles back into sleep.

I crack my knuckles and dive back in, resolve hardening.

I'll find a way out of this, I have to. For Diana.

I won't let that bastard Damon hurt her, no matter what I have to do.

She's my responsibility now.

I just need a plan, and fast. But with the fear of a mole lingering in my mind, I come up with no plan.

I need a break.

I go and stand by the window to clear my head, and look down.

John and Martha are out there, struggling with a wheelbarrow.

After everything they've done for us, I feel the urge to help.

I quietly exit the room, closing the door behind me.

By the time I reach downstairs, the elderly couple are tending to the animals.

"Morning Anthony," John says cheerfully as I shuffle closer.

"You're up early."

"Yeah, just had some things to take care of," I say, forcing a smile.

Can't let them know anything's wrong.

"Well don't let us interrupt you," Martha says kindly.

"We're just heading out to the barn to feed the horses."

"Here, let me give you a hand with that," I say.

As long as Diana's still sleeping safe inside, I can spare a few minutes to help.

And to try and forget, just for a little while, about the danger I've brought straight to our doorstep.

This ranch really is beautiful, especially at dawn before the day's heat sets in.

The horses nicker softly as we approach the barn, peering out from their stalls expectantly.

"Good morning, beauties," Martha coos at them, limping slowly down the aisle way with her bucket of feed.

I fall in step beside her, taking the heavy bucket from her frail hands.

"Here, let me get that for you."
