My heart stops. Pregnant?

It can’t be possible.

Anthony and I were careful that one time we had sex, we used protection.

And I haven't slept with anyone else in ages.

But then again, accidents happen.

My mind races as I try to recall the last time I had my period.

It feels like ages ago, but in reality, it may have only been a month or so.

“I’m not sure,” I admit softly. “I can’t remember.”

Martha nods, understanding. “It’s okay, dearie. We’ll figure this out.”

I take a deep breath, holding it for a few seconds before exhaling slowly.

“What should I do?”

“Well, the first thing we need to do is confirm whether you’re pregnant or not,” Martha says.

“I have a pregnancy test in my room. I always keep some for my granddaughters. Let me go get it for you.”

My heart races as Martha disappears up the stairs.

Pregnant?

How would Anthony react?

Would he be happy?

Angry?

Indifferent?

And what about me?

How do I feel about this?

Scared. Petrified. I try not to think too far ahead, because right now, I don't even know if I'm pregnant or not.

With all the drama that's been following me recently, it's just better to focus on one step at a time.

My thoughts are interrupted as Martha returns, holding a small white box.

She hands it to me with a kind smile.

“Here you go, dearie. Take this and go to the bathroom. Follow the instructions on the box and come back to me with the results.”

The box feels heavy in my trembling hands, and I can’t help but feel overwhelmed with nervousness as I slowly make my way upstairs to the bathroom.

I take a deep breath before entering, readying myself for whatever the outcome might be.

Following the instructions on the box, I do what needs to be done and wait.
