"No, Frankie would never betray me. We can trust him," said Anthony.

“We should get inside.” His voice is husky.

I grin. “Lead the way.”

We exit the car, the sun warm on my face, and make our way up the creaking porch steps.

Anthony unlocks the front door and we step over the threshold.

The cabin is spacious yet cozy, filled with rustic timber furniture and a stone fireplace.

But it’s empty. Silent.

“Frankie?” Anthony calls out.

No response.

My heartbeat quickens again.

Did something happen to Frankie?

But then I spot a note on the kitchen bench.

Anthony strides over and snatches it up.

“Everything okay?” I ask tentatively.

Anthony nods, the tension leaving his shoulders. “Frankie had to leave on short notice. But he’s stocked the place with enough supplies to last us months.”

“So we’re alone?” A delicious shiver runs down my spine at the thought.

“It would seem so.” Anthony’s eyes darken as he stalks toward me.

“Whatever shall we do with all this privacy?”

I back up until I hit the wall, pulse racing.

“I’m sure we can think of something.”

Anthony cages me in, bracing his hands on either side of my head.

“I have a few ideas.” He dips his head and I wonder if he's going to kiss me. I hope he's going to kiss me. But, instead, he gives me a naughty grin and says, "How about we eat like pigs first?"

And just like that, he's playing me.

Anthony breaks the gaze, eyes still smoldering. “Let’s get you settled in.”

He shows me around the cabin, pointing out the various security measures in place.

CCTV cameras monitor the surrounding forest, motion sensors guard the perimeter, and there’s even a panic room in case of emergency.

Feeling safe in our hideaway, I start unpacking, arranging my few belongings in the spacious bedroom.

Anthony does the same in the adjoining room.

When we’re done, we gravitate to the living room.
