I never understood why Kaisin wanted Lex to go home so bad, but now I’m wondering why Kordin didn’t want her working in his absence either. Lex made it sound like the brothers don’t talk outside of work, but that’s not how they seem to me.

A loud thud snaps me out of it.

Lex threw away the bag, this time without even seeing the Orchid or rock-star romance inside.

“You’re just going to fish them out later and take them home with you, so why’d you even bother?”

“As you just saw, my husband is back.”

“So what? He’s sleeping with someone else, too.”

“I’m notsleepingwith anybody.”

I smirk, and ask her, “Are you tired?”

She pops a shoulder. “No. I’m used to going without sleep.”

My smirk slips. There are so many ways I could take that. What keeps her up? Not Kordin…right?

“However…” She sighs in a way that could be considered as being pleased. “I am sore.”

Now I’m wearing a full-blown smile. It’s not Kordin. Her pussy, her body, wouldn’t be worn out if she were getting dick regularly.

“I don’t like how he talked to you. Does he always snap at you like that?” I nod toward the hallway.

“Always? No, I wouldn’t say that. Usually, my husband’s quite kind. Doting, in fact.”

Doting. He didn’t come across as doting in either of the times I’ve been around him.

Then I remember Breck’s assessment of Kordin. He’s doting…intentionally. He dotes on Lex as a way to get her to do what he wants.

It’s when she doesn’t, that he snaps.

“Although…” Lex says. “Today in particular, he has a lot on his mind.”

“Because he just got out of the hospital?”

Lex returns her attention to whatever she was working on before I came in here, but says, “That’s the story.”

“What really happened?”

“His mistress’s car was stolen last night.”

That’s a hell of a coincidence.

I study Lex.

Or is it?

“Ford Mustang? Red? With a car seat in the back?”

Nothing on Lex moves other than her fingers flying across the keyboard.

“Lex?”

The room goes silent as she looks at me.

I smile, then she does, a cruel slash across her face. It’s there one moment, gone the next. She stole Kordin’s fuck buddy’s car and set it on fire.
