“Apparently not,” she sneers but takes the money anyway. “So thirty more minutes for five Lost. How long for four Found?”

“How much time is left?”

She checks her watch. “Fifteen minutes, but Cyrus said to give her more if she needs it.”

So he was in there. With Lenox. And she might need more time…for what? To recover?

“Put me down for thirty.”

I hand over more cash before collecting the key for four Found from her.

As I spin to leave, Promise says, “Reece?”

“Yeah?” I ask without turning around.

Almost in a whisper, she tells me, “I’ll make sure Cyrus leaves Cia alone for the full thirty.”

She knows Cia needs a break. These women are like a family to each other; to most of them, it’s the only family they got.

“And me?”

“You’re still in five Lost with her, aren’t you?”

When I look back at the key girl, her face is pressed to her book, even more so than before.

While she’s blatantly ignoring me, I head to room four, looking between both the Lost and Found doors. This is my only shot to come face to face with her. I’m taking it.

I twist the handle to four Lost.

Lex

Cat jumps up from her perch on the loveseat’s armrest, asking whoever just interrupted, “Do you need something?”

With my back to the door as I sit against the loveseat’s armrest, I can’t see the person, but one inhale through my nose and I know exactly who it is. I smelled him on my way back here, when I unknowingly passed him by the Merry-Go-Round, but I never imagined he’d have the balls to actually approach me.

I was wanting to get the hell out of here as quickly as possible, but now I think I’ll stay a little…bit…longer.

“Kitty?” I hear him say, his voice softer than it was at my house. It’s still very deep, just nowhere near as deep as when he was purposely deepening it. “No, it’s nothing like that.”

“Cyrus didn’t send you in here?”

He must shake his head because she blows out a breath, relaxing her posture to ask, “Then what the fuck you want, Reece? I’m working.”

Reece. Sweet name for a sweet guy that likes sweet girls. If I still had a gag reflex, I’d make myself puke right now.

“Shit, sorry. I was looking for four Found and picked the wrong room.”

Cat’s frown confirms my suspicion. He’s lying. Working for Cyrus, this man, Reece, would have to know his way around The Playground. Not only does he know which doors lead to which rooms, he knows what goes on behind them. He was aiming for four Found…to watch four Lost. To watch this room specifically.

“It’s okay,” I finally break my silence to say.

When the door doesn’t close immediately, I turn my head over my right shoulder and meet the intruder’s eyes once again, this time with no mask blocking their color. Or depth.

God, a girl could fall into those without ever worrying about how she’ll get back out.

Even without the mask, they look black. Are they black? Or just dark brown? From here they look like bottomless pits of obsidian.

A couple pieces of his raven hair fall over his forehead as he lowers his head to stare directly at me. Below a prominent nose is a thin, almost nonexistent top lip compared to the plump bottom lip just under it. I could bite that lip all the way into my mouth and suck on it like a lollipop.
