The bed’s remote slides off the blanket, so I lean over Kordin, diverting his attention as I catch it out of view.

Kordin flinches, but the distinct scent of dirty scalp overwhelms me, forcing me to pull back as well. Even with a few inches of space, I switch to breathing through my mouth. I’m not sure when my husband’s last sponge bath was, but if this is how bad his head smells, I can’t imagine the odor coming from his balls.

I don’t even want to try.

“Help me with this thing,” he grits, tugging at his gown.

Lifting the thin, patterned material up high enough to unveil Kordin’s stiff dick with one hand, I use the other to push thepainbutton on the remote enough times to make my thumb ache. One of the nurses went over all its functions with me, and unfortunately, no matter how many times I press that particular button, the IV machine will only dispense one dose of medication at predetermined intervals. She also cautioned that it isn’t always responsive immediately, and since I need Kordin to get his medsnow, I hit it a couple more times.

Kordin lifts his uninjured hand, closing it around the hair by my ear, and the thought of him about to bring me in for a kiss rouses a small butterfly in my stomach.

“I miss you. I’m counting down the minutes until I’m back home with you. Do you miss me?”

“Of course I do,” I lie.

I go in for a kiss, but he turns his face away, saying, “Show me how much. Show me how much you miss me.”

I lick from palm up to my middle fingertip, then wrap my hand around the base of his cock, grasping as I pull upward.

“For fuck’s sake, Lenox,” Kordin half-groans as I stroke.

Having Kordin’s cock in my hold again, I’m realizing how thin and short it actually is. Compared to Reece’s, it’s quite inadequate-looking.

Sadly, it’s just as disappointing in every other way.

His fist full of my hair tightens before pushing, causing my head to swivel on my neck until I’m facing the other direction. He wasn’t holding me to him, he was preparing to turn me away from him…so he doesn’t have to look at me.

Back when Kordin still thought I’d make a good breeder, he used to love to watch me work his cock. Now, he avoids my face during any sexual interaction whatsoever.

I squeeze my eyes shut, keeping the building moisture safely behind my eyelids, then send a shot of unfiltered hatred down toward that lone butterfly, vaporizing it with seething acid.

Thankfully, it doesn’t take long for Kordin to grunt his release, the top of my fist warm from his cum. I wipe it up using napkins. As I’m throwing them away, I hear a series of squeaks in the hallway, and I tilt my head, training my ear toward the door.

Hasty footsteps lead away from Kordin’s room.Finally.The laxative I put in that pig’s coffee must’ve kicked in. I added just enough to loosen things up for the man, without making him shit out all of his organs. I need him away from his post for a little while, not be chained to the toilet for the next several hours. That’d be too obvious.

“What news do you have for me today, my love?”

“The only thing you should be worried about is resting,” I tell him with a gentle tone before adding, “But if it bothers you that much being out of the loop, I could always bring you your laptop.”

“That’s what you’re for.”

“Bringing you your laptop?”

There’s the tiniest of flutters in my stomach’s lining as I wait for Kordin to tell me if there’s a way to bypass the fingerprint authentication on his safe.

“Keeping me in the loop,” he says, grinding my stomach’s butterfly resurrection to a screeching halt.

After I give Kordin a brief rundown of my workday—the parts I want him to know—he yawns and asks, “How’s the newest addition coming along?”

“Reece Souza?” I debated on whether or not I should tell Kordin about Reece but ultimately decided it’d be better if he hears about our new hire from me rather than someone else later on, leading him to question why I didn’t say anything. “He’s getting married this weekend.”

“This weekend?”

Watching his mouth open on another yawn, I nod. Why else would Reece need an expensive suit and dress on such short notice?

I didn’t want to help Cyrus’s pet at first. Since he asked for the favor immediately after giving me a thoughtful gift—Is it really thoughtful if it was only given in hopes of gaining something in return?—I wasn’t going to at all. But after thinking about it, I saw an advantage to fulfilling his request—indebting him to me. I’m well aware Cyrus holds his leash, but a second set of ears around the firm could be beneficial. Those men don’t share things with me like they would with Reece. I’m not one of them, and I never will be. Not only am I a woman, but I’m the CEO’s wife. In their eyes, I’m also still the unqualified portfolio manager. I’ve worked my ass off the last eight years to become not only qualified, but overqualified, for my position at that company, but it hasn’t made a difference. When I walk into rooms there, it doesn’t go unnoticed. That little bit of gossip I picked up today about Reece’s fiancée was a fluke. If those two assistants had spotted me walking behind them, I don’t know if they would’ve spoken as freely.

And truthfully, it’s good Reece is getting married. While Kordin’s staff doesn’t appreciate my presence—apart from their lascivious looks in my direction—they might Reece’s in my office every morning. In all the time I’ve worked at the Debrosse Group, I’ve never had anyone report to me, so if the fox is going to continue the charade—I know he lied about Scott because Scott isn’t even in our department—then our daily meetings will be noted by others, if they haven’t been already. The meetings themselves need to appear as professional as possible and both of us having spouses helps reinforce that image.
