I followed him into the kitchen. “How are you feeling today?”

“Dizzy as fuck this morning, so I drank a gallon of water and then went back to sleep. I woke up five hours later and took a shower right before I got your text. Now, I’m feeling back to normal.” He grinned slyly, like he knew he was one lucky bastard. “Ready to party.”

I shook my head in disbelief while I leaned up against his kitchen island. “You’re lucky you caught on to whatever was going on and didn’t smoke anymore. Who knows what would have happened?”

He shrugged like it was of little concern now. “Maybe they knew who I was all along and just wanted to sell some insane photos to the media?”

I took a deep breath. “That’s the best-case scenario, mate. They could have been some weird cult that was going to lock you inside a coffin for some ritual, or maybe even something worse. Who knows? You’ve got to be more careful who you party with.”

Ghost scoffed. “You sound like Bishop. He called a group of guys from Vector into an emergency ‘off-the-record’ meeting this morning to analyze the situation. Bishop said they’re going to do some surveillance missions or some shit in their free time. He thinks there’s something more significant going on with them. Crazy fuckers, that kind of shit gets those ex-military dudes off better than porn.”

I’d opened my phone while he was talking and scanned social media. Luckily, nothing about Ghost or our band was trending. “Did you give the social media team a heads-up?”

“Nah.” He frowned. “The only photos or videos they got of me maybe showed I was a little wasted. I never got naked or went near the dead bodies.”

“Fuck. You’re going to be more careful, yeah? Maybe stick to hanging with the groupies?”

Ghost groaned. “My therapist complains that I already have too many trust issues, Knox. Don’t make it worse by getting all worked up about nothing.”

I let it drop but vowed to myself to keep a better eye on Ghost when we were out. “So, what’s going on tonight? Maybe you should lie low for a few days?”

“Fuck no.” Ghost began telling me about a girl he’d hooked up with a few weeks ago that turned out to be a B-list actress. She invited him to some celebrity bash tonight. She was probably using him for publicity to boost her career, but I kept my mouth shut.

I was pulling up a picture of this celebrity lass on the internet when I received a text message from an unknown number.

Unknown:Hi Scotty! This is Lara. I know your rash is acting up again and you have another heritage meeting this evening, but it would mean so much to Jim and me if you could rearrange your schedule and come out to dinner with us. We won’t be in town for long and we’d love to get to know you better.

I had to hold back a burst of laughter. My rash? Well played, my wee bouncy bumpkin.

Ghost shot me a look. “What’s so funny?”

“This girl’s parents just asked me out to dinner, so they could get to know me better.” I shook my head in disbelief.

“What girl?” he asked.

“Some hot babe I kissed at the coffee shop this morning. I don’t even know her name, but her mother got my phone number.”

“Wait, what?” Ghost furrowed his brow in confusion. He knew that I never gave out my number. “You gave her mother your phone number?”

“Yeah, I did.” I chuckled to myself in disbelief.

“So let me get this straight.” He counted off with his fingers as he spoke. “You kissed her at the coffee shop, you don’t know her name, and yet you’re going out to dinner with her parents? You work quickly, my man.”

“I’m not going to dinner with them,” I clarified. “I only kissed her because she was so bonnie. She was one of those all-American girls that my teenage dick used to get hard for. She had fucking gorgeous blonde hair and bright blue eyes with blindingly white teeth. She was the poster girl for what my wet-dream fantasy girl looked like.”

“So, what’s the problem?” Ghost raised an eyebrow in question. “Go to dinner, show her the rock star charm, and you’ll get your fantasy fuck afterward.”

It was a good thing I was standing behind the kitchen island because I felt my dick growing hard just thinking about her. I had to adjust my stance to relieve some of the pressure.

“The lass looks like an absolute angel, but she spent the entire 15 minutes of our acquaintance insulting me. She’s a real sassy lass and I could tell by her clothing that she was rich and probably snobby. She was busy busting my balls and then her mum showed up and she lied to her for some inexplicable reason and told her mum that I was her boyfriend. I don’t know, mate, she’s probably a complete psycho.”

Ghost raised his eyebrows. “Fuck yeah, but she’s probably a great lay.”

I agreed. “She’s definitely a spitfire, that one.”

He tapped his fingers on the counter. “So go to dinner. I haven’t seen you this interested in a chick in forever. Go have a bit of fun. Do you have better plans for tonight?”

I grimaced. “Nah. Then I’d have to get security involved. She doesn’t even know who I am, even though that’s kind of refreshing after having all those fans throwing themselves at me for the past year. Sometimes that gets old.”
