“What do you do when you’re stuck?” I don’t know why, but I’m dying to hear her words.

Jade’s head falls so I can't see her eyes. “Listen to music.”

I step closer to her and bend, so she’s forced to look back at me. If it’s possible, her cheeks get pinker. She can’t keep eye contact and her own eyes jump all over the place. “You wouldn’t be a fan of my music, are you Jade?”

She blows out an agitated breath, her eyes firing slightly. “If you weren’t you and standing in front of me, and you were someone else completely, then I’d tell you, yes, I am. It's weird though because you’re…” Her arm motions up and down my body.

I laugh lightly. “Me,” I finish for her. Interesting. Even though I saw her with my own two eyes that night dancing to one of my oldest songs, hearing her say it out loud isn’t annoying like I thought it would be. My heart hammers in my chest instead, while I imagine her dancing to my new songs.

“I’m not a stalker, I swear.” She shifts on her feet. Her guard is back up, mistrust flashes in her eyes. I can sense she fears that's what I would think of her. A stalker, obsessed fan. I sort of want her to be a little obsessed with me though. I’ve already been stalking her.

“I didn’t peg you as the type.” I hold up my hands and smile, maybe this will put her at ease again. I like when she gets a little feisty, but not when she puts her walls up. “How about I show you a little of mine and you show me yours?”

Her lips quirk up and a laugh escapes her mouth. It’s fucking sexy sounding. Chills run down my back. I want that. I want that noise on my track. “What if I was a stalker? You’re inviting me into your lair, where all the magic happens. I could steal your things.”

I dare her to try. I’d probably just cage her down there until all my songs are complete anyways. “Where the magic happens, huh? I don’t know how much magic I’ve been creating.”

Her smile turns down, her head tilting, contemplating like she is going to fix everything. “Alright. Show me yours first?”

“Yeah?” I perk right up. Part of me didn’t think she'd go for it. Jade seems like a girl who is very careful. Agreeing to enter a basement with a new acquaintance doesn’t strike me as something she would normally do. I like it though. My lips quirk up and I gesture for her to come with me.

She grabs a sweatshirt from one of the chairs and quickly tugs it down her body before following me out the door. The sweatshirt lands right at her mid-thigh, yet does nothing to hide the rest of her skin still on display.Legs wrapped around my waist begging me not to go.I tap out a beat the entire walk to the recording studio. Thankfully, Terrance is gone when we get there. My cousin made himself useful and split.

Jade walks over to the mixing console. Her finger brushes lightly over the controls and then at the workstation. “I’m going to go in.” I point to the door and she nods. I let it close behind me and I’m engulfed in the silence of the room. Picking up the headphones, I slide them on and make eye contact with her through the glass.

“Is this how they talk to you?” Her voice amplifies in my headphones.

“Can you hear me?” I speak into the microphone. Her face lights up and she nods her head. “When I tell you to, hit the green button, then count me in.”

“What do I count to?”

“One, two, three, four,” I tell her. She smiles and nods again, while looking around for the green button. She makes her way over to it.

I check my equipment and grab the notebook I'd been writing in earlier. It’s a gamble. This could go one of two ways. She will either not realize where the lyrics are coming from or she’ll get it and I’ll have to explain myself. It's a chance I’m willing to take.

I flip the controller. “Green.”

She hits the button. “One, two, three, four.” Her voice counts softly.

“I can’t tell you what it really is. Why I’m willing to defy all things I believe in.

One look from you and I’m putting all my money on the stars in the sky, not caring how I get by. Your voice is a melody and my heart beats differently. Just dance for me, baby, keep spinning me around, if I don’t touch you, you won’t hit the ground.

I’m a necessary evil. Coated in blood and born to avenge you. Trust me, open your heart to me and you’ll see my truth. Keep spinning around in circles…”

The music trails off and I move the headphones off my ears. Our eyes meet through the glass. The pureness in her expression, while she admires my art, makes my breath catch in my throat. Emotion runs through her eyes, and her smile is everything.

“That's it?” She giggles. I change my mind right here.Thatis the noise I want on this track. I have to find a way to convince her. Terrance can mix it in.

Dancing in the shadows for me. Hold me tight and fight with me. Her legs wrapped around my waist begging me not to go. Hold on baby, our time isn’t over yet.

“I told you the lyrics aren’t coming together yet.” I shrug, keeping the truth to myself. Just seeing her practically writes the song itself.

Her eyes darken and run over my face. I swear the floor moves under my feet. I’m drawn to her. She has to feel it too. I set my notebook down and move toward the door.

“I guess you need more inspiration.”

Oh, my little star, I definitely do.
