I turn to see my parents wielding weapons of their own.

“Are you okay?” I ask them, checking their bodies for wounds.

“We’re fine, don’t worry about us!” My father calls, motioning toward the ongoing battle.

“Go help Aurora!” My mother adds. “We must put an end to Vippera once and for all.”

“Slyth, stay here and protect them!”

I run off in Rory’s direction. Around the women are holes in the ground and walls, caused by their magic. I run into more soldiers, cutting them down as I fight desperately.

Just as I kill another soldier, my hand is grabbed by an enemy. I turn to be greeted by a punch to the face, sending me to the ground. I peer up to spot the attacker with his sword raised.

Just then, two humans spear him to the ground. I rush back to my feet, watching for a moment as the humans bash the naga’s face in with heavy rocks.

Must feel good for them.

I scramble up the hill where Rory and Vippera continue their deadly dance of magic. Their bodies are stricken with wounds but Rory is relentless, not giving up as she unleashes a furious wave of attacks on Vippera.

The naga tyrant’s abilities are no match for Rory’s as she seemingly becomes worn down. After all, arcane magic is the most powerful of all. Vippera is beaten into submission just as I come close.

“What are you?” yells Vippera in fear as Rory advances on her.

“Your worst nightmare!” yells Rory as she hurls the immobilized Vippera toward me.

My sword dives deep into her body, blood spurting from her mouth. I watch as her eyes roll back, life swiftly leaving her body before she falls to the ground.

Rory’s green form slowly fades back into that of her regular self, but not before unleashing another bright light. I look away as everyone turns to marvel, covering their eyes as they do.

The light fades, revealing Rory to be back to normal. I rush forward, embracing her with a tight grip.

“Rory, that was amazing!” I say in her ear.

As we pull each other closer, I watch as Vippera’s army throws down their weapons and surrenders. They raise their hands and fall to their knees as my men make haste to round them up. The allies alongside the townspeople erupt in a glorious cheer of victory, the sound of which fuels me to do something I’ve never done before.

I direct my gaze on Rory, her eyes narrowing in on mine. She tilts her head, smiling coyly at me.

“You want to say something, don’t you?” she says.

“There’s never been a better time,” I reply with a smile. “But let me do something first.”

Our lips meet in a passionate kiss, the taste made sweeter by the feeling of victory. As I pull back, our eyes remain hooked on each other.

“Rory… I love you.”

AURORA

Did he just say what I think he said?

At that moment, I forget all about the chaos surrounding us. His three words are the only thing on my mind.

“Say that one more time,” I say in disbelief. “And tell me I’m not dreaming.”

He chuckles, his handsome smile stretching across his face.

“This is not a dream, Rory. I love you.”
