A smile came to her face as she imagined spending Christmas with Will. She knew he loved the holiday as much as she did, so they’d enjoy it together that year. And she’d need to find the perfect gift for him. That might be a challenge, but she was up for it.

She pulled out her phone, happy for an excuse to talk to Will.

“Hey, beautiful.” His greeting warmed her, and her cheeks ached with the stretch of her smile.

“Hey, handsome.”

Will chuckled. “How was your evening?”

“It was fine. How about yours?”

“Pretty quiet, but I’m ready for the week now. I think.”

After they’d talked briefly about the week ahead, Janessa told him about Aria’s visit.

“Huh. So maybe we didn’t hide it as well as we thought.”

“To be honest, they’ve been saying stuff like this to me even before we decided to date.”

“Yeah. Me too. Jay even called me up to ask if I was interested in you.”

“I know,” Janessa said, remembering the conversation that had prompted Jay to make that call.

“So all we’ll be doing is confirming their suspicions?”

“Basically. I’m just not sure how we’re supposed to let them know. Group text?”

“How about sending out one of those pictures we took the other night?”

Janessa smiled. She loved those pictures. “I think that would be perfect.”

“Okay. We’ll each send one to our family group chats.”

“And then sit back and let the teasing begin.”

Will laughed. “Yep. Gotta love our families.”

“Do you think our moms will say something likeI told you so?” Janessa asked. “Mom has never hinted that I should date you, but that doesn’t mean she won’t try to take credit for the idea.”

“My mom used to say that she thought I should date one of the Halverson girls.”

“Just any of us?”

“Yep. She never named one of you specifically. I think she just felt that you’d been raised right.”

“Hopefully she won’t be disappointed that I’m the one you ended up with.”

“That will never happen. She loves all of you. She was pleased that we were working together and felt that we made a good team on that committee.”

“Well, hopefully she thinks we make a good team romantically, as well.”

“You have to know that whether she does or not makes no difference to me. I… care a lot about you. I want to be in a relationship with you.”

Warmth suffused Janessa. The confidence in Will’s words made her fall a little more in love with him. “I want that too.”

“And the best thing about going public with our relationship is that we can spend even more time together.”

And they could sit next to each other without worrying that someone would pick up on what they were trying to keep secret. “So… do you want to come for dinner tomorrow night?”
