Normally, Kayleigh would only eat in the restaurants once a week, if that, but since Hudson had been there, she’d eaten there a couple of times already. Not that it was a hardship. The food in each of the restaurants was amazing.

The hostess greeted Kayleigh as she stepped into the Steakhouse. She walked with her through the restaurant to the booth where Hudson waited. Their table was next to the window this time, and as she sat down, she could see that it was snowing outside.

“Nice wintery day,” Hudson observed once the hostess had left them.

“Not sure about nice, but it is definitely wintery.”

Hudson chuckled. “Okay. You’ve got me there.”

“I can’t deny that it’s pretty,” Kayleigh admitted. “As long as you don’t have to go out in it.”

“Does Wilder like snowy days?”

“Once there’s enough snow on the slopes for good skiing, but I don’t think he wants it snowing all the time. When it’s too snowy, guests seem to prefer to stay inside in front of the fireplaces.”

“That’s understandable. I’d probably prefer to do that, too.”

“Yep, me too.”

The server came then to take their order, and when she left them, the conversation turned to work. Hudson had papers spread out on the table next to him, so it appeared he’d been sitting there a while before she’d shown up.

“Do you have time to join the meeting this afternoon?” he asked.

“I can make sure that I’m there,” she told him. In fact, she’d checked with Andrea and had her make sure that her schedule was clear for that time. Just in case. Anyone phoning to make an appointment to see her would be worked in around that.

“I’d like to deal with setting up the security myself, but I’m going to have to leave for a few days.”

“Oh?” She wanted to ask why, but really, it was none of her business.

Thankfully, Hudson didn’t seem to have a problem revealing his plans. “Out of the blue, Alexander is sending me to Scotland for a few days to check out a hotel there.”

“A Remington property?”

“Not yet. He wants me to have a look at it and see if it might be worth buying.”

“Have you been to Scotland before?”

“Yes. We have properties in both Edinburgh and Glasgow. This property is more rural, but there are enough interesting things in the area that it might do well with the right team in place.”

“It seems that if there’s one thing Remington knows how to do, it’s to market its properties to reach the clientele that are willing to pay for the privilege of staying in one of their hotels or resorts.”

“That’s true,” Hudson said. “Part of what I have to present to Alexander is a marketing report. He wants to know what we’d be able to use about the property and the surrounding area to attract people to it.”

Kayleigh had had many interactions with the marketing department of Remington over the years. They always let her know when a new campaign was being launched that might impact the reservations at the resort. While she had a solid understanding of marketing, the department at Remington headquarters took it to a whole new level.

“Is there a team of you that go?”

“Sometimes. In this case, Alexander is most interested in the state of the property. It’s older, so it’s possible that it would require too much work to bring it up to Remington standards. So I’ll go and have a look around and if necessary, I’ll contact someone to come in and give a more in depth report on the condition of the building.”

“Do you enjoy what you do?”

Hudson didn’t reply right away, then he said, “I do most of the time. Sometimes, though, I struggle to deal with situations in countries that have a culture significantly different from ours.”

“I imagine that would be stressful.”

Hudson nodded. “The last thing I’d ever want to do is offend someone. Unfortunately, I just can’t learn enough of the nuances of every culture in order to be completely comfortable in dealing with each one. I strive to be respectful, but what’s considered respectful can differ from one country to the next.”

“I guess I never really thought about how that might be.”
