When next he woke, it was to the sound of movement in the cabin. Hudson lifted his arms above his head, stretching out the muscles in his back. Though he didn’t feel completely rested, it was enough that he should be able to get through the day.

“How long until we land?” Hudson quietly asked the attendant as she neared his seat.

“About two and a half hours.”

He hadn’t been asleep nearly as long as he’d thought, but it would have to do. With a sigh, he straightened his chair. “Can I have a cup of coffee, please?”

As he waited, he checked his phone, thankful that he had Wi-Fi on the plane. There were no text messages waiting for him, but that wasn’t a surprise, given that it was still nighttime in the US.

There were plenty of emails, however. It was always business hours somewhere in the world, it seemed, so those emails were waiting for him.

As he drank his first cup of coffee, Hudson worked his way through his inbox. He’d gotten through about half of them when Caleb let out a snort and a groan.

Hudson glanced at the man as Caleb slowly sat up, scrubbing his hands over his face.

“I should have told Alexander I wasn’t interested in this trip,” Caleb groused. “I like my bed at home better than this chair.”

“Stop whining and have a cup of coffee,” Hudson told him. “You’ll feel better.”

“Is there any sort of food on this plane?”

“Pretty sure there is.”

When the attendant reappeared, Caleb asked for coffee, Hudson requested a refill, and they both asked for some breakfast. By the time the attendant returned with their food, the other people on the plane were also awake.

Hudson finished his breakfast, then went to the bathroom to take a shower and get dressed for the day. He didn’t linger, however, since there were others who needed to use the facilities.

He left his suit coat on the hanger, then sat back down. It wasn’t long after the last person had finished using the bathroom that they began to descend into Glasgow. There would be a car waiting to take them to the hotel where they’d be staying. The place Alexander hoped to buy.

Hudson hoped that the place wasn’t so rundown that the beds and food weren’t decent.

It didn’t take too long to get through customs and to find the car that had been sent from the Remington property in Glasgow. They weren’t staying at that hotel, but they’d made arrangements for a driver from there. That meant they didn’t have to fuss with having to follow directions while driving on the opposite side of the road. It was a large enough vehicle that the four of them, plus their luggage, could fit in comfortably with the driver.

Hudson watched the city pass by as the driver guided the car through the streets. He loved the look of European cities. The beauty of their buildings and architecture was lacking in the more modern cities in the US.

Eventually, they left Glasgow behind, taking a motorway east. There were gray clouds in the sky, giving it a very wintery feel, but there was no snow on the ground, unlike Serenity. He enjoyed the break from it, especially when it came with an interesting view.

When they eventually got off the motorway, they passed through some smaller towns which were steeped in history. The buildings, the stone fences, the narrow roads. Add in the hills in the distance and all of it appealed to Hudson.

He wondered if Kayleigh had ever travelled through the UK or parts of Europe. Since she was a Remington employee—and a resort manager at that—she would have been able to get a good deal on any of the properties around the world.

“I need to take lots of pictures to show my mom,” Caleb said. “This is amazing.”

Though Hudson travelled extensively, Caleb rarely went with him. “Would she ever want to travel?”

“I don’t know. She’s pretty much a homebody.”

Caleb was as well, Hudson knew, but perhaps he could make arrangements for them to come over for a bit of a vacation. He’d talk to him more about it once they’d finished this trip.

Soon, the vehicle pulled up in front of the hotel, which had that same historical look that many of the buildings they’d passed had had. It definitely was an older building, so Hudson hoped that it wouldn’t be too difficult to update it.

As they climbed from the vehicle, a man wearing a uniform stepped out of the hotel and greeted them with a smile.

Over the next little while, they got checked in and were shown to their rooms. He and Caleb were in the penthouse suite, which was on the top floor of the five-story building. There were two bedrooms in the suite, so they each took one. The others each had their own room on the floor below them.

They agreed to meet for lunch, where they’d plot out their schedules for their time at the hotel.

“This seems like a nice enough place, if not a little dated,” Caleb said as he walked around the shared space of the suite.
