“Sexy.” Her voice is so deep and low it almost sounds as if it’s coming from someone else.

Bolder now, I edge closer and drag one of my fangs up the column of her throat, allowing her to feel its sharpness without piercing her skin. She gasps, but I intuitively know it’s not from pain or fright. The carotid beneath her pale skin is pounding in arousal. For me.

She shifts toward me. Her breath grazes across my face right before she presses her lips to mine and sighs. The sound is as though she finally found something she’s been searching for.

I’m lost in the feel of lip on lip. At first, I ensure I don’t harm her with my fangs, but somehow we fit together like the pieces of a puzzle.

This kiss, a gentle, tentative exploration, is enough to send shivers down my spine.

Her fingers curl around my shoulders. Instead of getting a solid grip, they slide through my pelt, perhaps memorizing the feel of my fur just as I’m memorizing the soft appeal of her skin.

I never had the courage to imagine it, but have I found someone who accepts me for who I am, tiger DNA and all?

Her slick human tongue licks across my lips and when they part for her, she barges through to taste me, as I’m tasting her. She’s slick and slightly sweet, and for the swiftest moment, I’m drowning in her.

The most surprising thing of all happens when our tongues play with each other. I’ve stroked myself a thousand times in the past. It’s always been a serious affair performed with a single desire—to race to the conclusion.

Olivia and I are playing! I never dreamed this could be both heady and lighthearted at the same time.

I force myself to pull away long enough to ask about my raspy tongue, “Am I scratching you?”

“It’s good, Ty. Every single thing about you isgood.” To emphasize her point, she licks my tongue with the tip of hers, then closes her eyes and moans with pleasure. She couldn’t fake that. “It feels like tiny sparks of electricity.”

We kiss for long moments as I keep a small part of the back of my mind tuned to hear if the wolf returns, although he’d have to be stupid to consider going up against me.

As our kiss grows more intense and passionate, I worry I might lose control. I’m a predator at heart, with instincts that sometimes threaten to overwhelm me. With Olivia, though, I’m safe, grounded, and in control. I have my arms wrapped around her small body as she leans up on her tiptoes, pressing her mouth to mine as she sensually strokes my ears, which are so different from her own.

But if this goes further, I’m not certain my control will last. Reluctantly, I break the kiss. When I step back, her eyes are still closed, desire etched on her beautiful face.

“We should go.” I lean to kiss her forehead as I extend my claws and comb them through her long hair. My tail wraps around her waist of its own volition. I may be preparing to return to the dorms, but my tail has other ideas.

Olivia looks as reluctant as I feel, which, though it’s shitty, makes me feel as if I’m king of the world.

My pulse is pounding, my gaze is unfocused, and my cock is kicking so hard against the inside of my pants I wonder if I’ll have a raw spot. How do people live through something so intense?

“Was it good?” she asks.

I’m learning her tells. The slight tilt of her head reveals she’s not feeling self-assured about what we just shared.

“I’ve imagined our first kiss many times. None were as amazing as that.” Now it’s my turn to feel unsure. “And how was your first kiss?”

“Wonderful enough to tell me I want many, many more, Ty. With you.”

Chapter Seventeen

Olivia

It’s a good thing I’m leaning against the plate glass door because that kiss was so amazing my knees can barely support me. Even though the huge splicer just caused an angry wolf to yip and slink away, Ty looks as though he’s not much more stable on his feet than me.

“We should get back before the soldiers come looking for us,” I say.

It’s true. There are cameras everywhere. My hunch is their purpose is to guard against something like this as much as it’s to keep us safe from the wildlife.

Ty shakes his head, perhaps in an effort to bring his thoughts online, then slips his hand to the small of my back to escort me to the dorm.

Stiffening, he suddenly sniffs the air. He tightens his grip around my waist and, though he’s facing me, he cranes to peer into the street. For a moment, I think the wolf must have returned, but my eyes widen as I hear what can only be the sound of boots on the ground.

“Put your hands up! Now! Turn, face us, and then lie face down on the ground. Now, splicer!”
