“Beautiful,” he whispered. “You’re so gorgeous, January. You’re the most exquisitely beautiful woman I have ever seen, and that was the best thing I have ever felt in my life.”

“What about the first time?”

“Every time just gets better and better.”

“I hope so.”

“I know so.”

“But you—”

“Are you okay? Do you want to stop?”

“No. I don’t want to stop.” She didn’t need as much of a breather as she’d anticipated. Her body was like a livewire and she was ridiculously sensitive, but it didn’t feel like a bad sensitive. More just like incredibly heightened sensations. She loved every bit of having Tavish beneath her and inside her. Stopping would feel like the worst thing in the world.

Tavish rolled his hips, grasping her around the waist gently to help her move with him. She was more than happy to do so, sensations erupting through her. She was goosebumps all over, cold and hot, still trembling with the shockwaves of that climax. He felt so hard inside her. So big. Every single movement sent her spiralling again and again and she eventually had to close her eyes and just give herself up to it.

“Love how you look on top of me,” Tavish growled. “I love how you feel. So tight, clenching around my cock.”

“I never want you to stop,” she whispered, finding her voice from somewhere deep inside herself, even though words felt pretty darn near impossible.

She pumped her hips, flowing with his pace. She loved the feral noises he made, how he changed things up, getting more erratic. She leaned forward, grasping his shoulders, taking him in long, steady strokes, and when he started to tremble, she captured his mouth. She wanted his words, his sounds, every bit of him inside her when he came. She wanted all of it, all of him, everything that he had to offer.

She wanted to give everything she had as well. Every bit of her. All of it on the table. Heart. Body. Soul. Past. Present. Future. She trusted Tavish. She wanted him to have those parts of her and she wanted his in return. She wanted to cherish them and take care of him, to be the one he relied on and could turn to. She wanted to raise their baby together, to share a future together, even if that started with one day at a time and them putting together a plan for her to stay in Greenacre.

She knew the second Tavish was going to come, just as he’d read her cues. He tensed beneath her, thrust hard once more, and then she felt the hot spurts jetting deep inside her. He said her name softly and nothing else, like it was the only word he could get out. The reverence of the sound hit her, and she shivered through the pleasant sensations still flowing through her, from feeling Tavish inside her, from hearing his uneven breathing, from knowing that there was no one in the world like him.

It was like coming home. Home had once been Phoenix, but she knew it wasn’t anymore. Maybe it hadn’t actually truly been home for her in a long time. Maybe her heart and spirit had wandered on before her physical body was ready.

She gasped in surprise, but recovered quickly as Tavish gently rolled her over. He didn’t climb on top of her, but instead angled her so she landed beside him. He reached for her and she reached for him, their arms tangling together. He kissed her deeply instead of going straight for words.

She waited for a while too before she could say anything. She stared into his beautiful face, thinking how lucky she was that she was there with him. The aftershocks of pleasure still coursed through her. He smiled at her, his face lighting up, and her heart pulsed even harder.

“I want to stay,” she whispered, caressing his cheek. “I want to stay here in Greenacre. Maybe Sam can find me a place, or maybe his and Lily’s offer would be for more than a night, or maybe Glendy has a spare room. I just want to get some things straight in my head before I move in here. I’d like to have some time for us to date—some time to get used to not having our own space anymore. I think if we ease into it, it will be a much easier transition. Would that be okay?’

“Absolutely. I know Sam and Lily would let you stay with them if there isn’t a place empty here for you. You’re always welcome here. This is your home too, from this day forward.” He set her hand on his chest, right above his beating heart when he said it. “It makes sense to ease into living together. It’s a big change. If you want me to, I’ll go with you to your sister’s anytime. Or even to Phoenix.”

“You would do that?”

“I would do that. Your parents, your brother, your sister and her family, and anyone else, they’re always welcome here in Greenacre too.” His eyes shone. “We’regoing to be a family. The three of us.” It was like he still couldn’t believe it. He said that word with such reverence.

She couldn’t believe she was pregnant either. She’d waited so long. Hoped to be a mother for so long. She knew it was happening, but the changes in her body weren’t evident yet, so sometimes she still found it so hard to believe.

She was scared to get excited, but she wanted to. She wanted to celebrate this, not live in fear that something would happen. If something happened, she’d be devastated, but she’d get through it. She was strong. Strong enough that she would pick herself up and be there for her mate. Strong enough that she’d let him be there for her. And if they weren’t meant to have children, they’d be a family by helping raise the other kids in Greenacre. She wouldn’t leave. She wasn’t just here for the baby. She was here for herself too.

For her heart. For Tavish’s heart.

“I’m staying,” she whispered again, just to be sure that he’d heard it. To reassure him that she wasn’t going to change her mind.

He brushed a kiss over her forehead. “And I am the most blessed man in all the world to have you by my side.”

She took Tavish’s hand and pressed their palms together, lining up their fingers. She didn’t know anything about lifelines or palm lines, but she hoped that when their palms met and their fingers entwined together, those lines were firmly joined, symbolizing all the years that they could grow into a future, fall in love, and learn how to be a family together.

Tavish

“You must have had a wonderful morning. You’re glowing.”
