“It wasn’t a fight,” I reminded him. “It was just a disagreement. You were about to go the wrong way. And I was right.”

Damian turned to me, eyes on fire and smiled. Liquid heat rushed through my veins and he absently grabbed my hand. My entire body focused on the one spot where his thumb met my palm.

“Yes. You were right, Thalia. I’m sorry. Anyway, we finally made it to Sacramento and were both fuming. I had a gig there the next night. I think that’s why we went in the first place. But I knew I had to do something. So I started looking up sunflower fields because I thought that would make you happy. The next morning, I gently suggested… ”

“You forced me into the car. I was still pissed at you.”

“Yes, for your own good, I forced you back into the car. But when we got there… I will never forget how your eyes lit up. You glowed as brightly as those flowers under the sun. You were so beautiful, Thalia. I could never forget that day. In fact…”

Damian stood up and walked to the built-in bookshelf that seemed stuffed with trinkets. He pulled out a small picture frame.

“I’ve kept this ever since.”

The small wood picture frame housed an old photo of me and Damian. We were standing in a field of sunflowers with Damian’s arms wrapped around me as I was laughing. And the way he was looking at me… Well, it was kind of like the way he was looking at me right now.

I swallowed hard, a painful lump growing in my throat.

“You’ve had this the whole time?”

Damian nodded, looking at me seriously, intently.

“So, Thalia, that’s why I named the album, 'Sunflower'. It’s for you and Luna.”

I cleared my throat, handing him the small frame. He took one last long look at it and placed it back on the shelf.

“I should tell you, Luna’s middle name is Girasol, Spanish for sunflower. It came to me because Luna is my sun and moon, but I thought calling her my moon, and the sunflower part added a little more flair.”

Damian took a lock of my hair and twirled it around his fingers.

“Luna said the middle of a sunflower reminds her of your eyes. That’s why she likes them so much. And I’d have to agree. Your eyes are beautiful. I know that sounds like a cheesy line, and maybe it is, but I can never get the color of your eyes out of my head, Thalia.”

I laughed lightly.

“Really? You should look in the mirror more often, because yours look just like the ocean. The shade of them changes depending on your mood and it's fascinating. Your eyes are one of my favorite shows.”

Damian laughed softly and held up my hand, gently placing a kiss on my wrist.

“So that’s the story of the sunflowers.”

“Damn,” was all I could mutter, and Damian smiled again.

He swiped a thumb under my eyes.

“I told you I never wanted to make you cry again,” he whispered as he kissed me behind my ear.

“Happy tears don’t count.” I felt the rumble of Damian’s chuckle against my neck as he continued his exploration.

He finally made it to my lips, and he kissed me, full of passion and longing. After barely a few seconds, he urged me to scramble onto his lap, each of my legs on either side of him. I could feel every inch of him through the fabric of our clothes. I was only wearing a dress, and I was sure he could tell I was ready for him already.

“God, you’re so beautiful, Thalia.” Damian groaned as he tugged the light dress I wore over my head, leaving me in nothing but my bra and panties.

Suddenly, Damian stood, my legs wrapped tightly around him as I groaned at the friction from the erection that was straining against his zipper. He turned to set me back down on the couch and knelt in front of me, each leg over his shoulder.

“So beautiful,” he muttered again as he explored my body with his lips. With his teeth, he pulled down my panties, and I had never been so turned on in my life. Immediately, without pretense or teasing, his lips were right where I needed, sending shockwaves of pleasure through my core.

I closed my eyes and tipped my head back as I cried out at the contact. He held my thighs still with his strong hands.

“You like that?” I felt the vibrations through my entire body.
