“Between you, Jackson, and Sadie, Luna is getting way too spoiled,” I admonished Damian when we were alone.
“I know, I know. I’ll talk to Jackson when we get back about dialing down on the snack breaks.” He stared at me appreciatively as I picked up the guitar again. “You seem to be in your element.”
Damian smiled at me, and I forgot to breathe for a second.
“Thanks. I think I am.”
Damian came to stand behind me, rubbing my shoulders before dropping a kiss on the top of my head.
“Good, because I think it’s finally your time in the spotlight. You’re going to blow everyone away, Thalia.”
He roped his arms around my neck and dipped low for a hug.
I valued these moments so much. For the last few years, my life has been chaotic. And while I’d been fortunate enough to have my mom and sister, I’d had to do most of it on my own. There had always been another problem looming on the horizon just as I’d finished solving the one in front of me. It felt good to let myself be supported.
These quiet, peaceful moments where it was just me, Damian, and the music… they were everything I’d wanted. It was my paradise.
“I love you,” I sighed.
Damian placed a kiss behind my ear.
“I love you, too.”
Damian moved to sit on the piano bench, and I strummed a few chords on the guitar.
I took a deep breath when I realized the chords were from a new song I was working on. It would be my first after all these years. I turned toward Damian.
“Hey, you wanna hear this new song I’ve been working on?" I smiled and winked at him, before revealing…
"It’s about us.”
