She cringed slightly, then laughed. "I guess so. I think so." Stepping past him toward the door she admitted. "I'm not sure."

Laughing he replied, "Fair enough."

They climbed into the truck and he wracked his brain thinking where he could go next. Then he nodded, he knew.

He pulled into the lot in front of Lara's Delights.

She laughed. "You want to know if I want to eat cookies or bake them?"

"Either one is a revelation, isn't it?"

Laughing she said, "I suppose it is."

They strutted to the front door, hand in hand, the mood lifted and his new mission was helping Everleigh figure out what she wanted to be when she grew up. He was up for the mission.

The aromas that wafted over them in Lara's place were mouthwatering.

"Oh, this is so cute in here."

Lara appeared from the kitchen in the back. "Hi, Henry." She walked forward and held her hand out to Everleigh. "I presume you're Everleigh. I'm Lara Vickers."

"Yes, I am. It's nice to meet you, Lara. Henry wants to know if I like eating cookies or baking them more."

Lara cocked her head to the side. "Okay."

He laughed. "We're trying to figure out what Everleigh would like to do in her spare time. To date, she's all work and no play."

Lara laughed. "Oh, okay. That makes a bit more sense." She hurried behind the counter and pulled out two cookies, decorated like flowers. She laid them each on a paper plate and handed them out to each of them. "These are on the house. Let me know if you like them."

Everleigh giggled. "I see a pattern here with the flowers."

He chuckled, "Completely unintended."

He put money on the counter and winked at Lara. "I appreciate the freebie, but I don't want you doing that. You have a baby to pay for soon enough."

Lara laughed. "I think we'll be fine with baby things. But thank you. I appreciate it."

Everleigh grinned. "Congratulations. When are you due?"

"February. I have a ways to go. Luckily for me, I haven't been sick in the mornings, so that's a bonus. I don't know how I'd bake cookies with morning sickness."

"That would be terrible."

Lara's phone rang. "Gotta get this. Henry, you two grab something to drink and take a seat wherever you like."

"Thanks, Lara."

He led Everleigh to a little table in front of the large front window. "What would you like to drink?"

The smile she shined on him nearly buckled his knees. "A water would be great."

He turned, swallowed the knot in his throat and pulled two bottles of water from the cooler near the counter.

Sitting across from Everleigh, he grinned at her and nodded to her cookie. "Eat up."

She lifted her cookie and took a bite out of it. She closed her eyes and sat back in her chair. "Mmm." Swallowing, she breathed. "That's to-die-for good."

"I believe I told you, best cookies you'll ever eat."
