Everleigh exited the bathroom looking nervous and yet simply stunning. He held his arms open and she eagerly walked into his embrace. His heartbeat was strong and rapid. He laid his cheek on the top of her head.
She chuckled, "Your heart is beating so fast."
"It is."
Her arms tightened around his waist. "Mine is too."
His eyes closed and he concentrated on the feeling of her against his body and her scent. He'd remember how she felt against him forever.
After a few moments he pulled away, plastered on a smile and said, "Shall we go visit?"
"We should."
They entered the kitchen to laughter and Myles declaring his third win. Tate told him it was still a tie and they broke each other's balls a bit. Hawk turned, "Henry, get me a beer, please."
Tate called out, "Me, too."
Henry grabbed two beers from the refrigerator and handed them to Everleigh. "What do you want?" She peered inside and spotted the hard seltzer. "I'll take one of those please."
Nodding, he grabbed a seltzer, then turned to the table. "Mom, Lara, do you need anything?"
Lara laughed, "Nothing for me."
His mom smiled and held up her wine glass. He dutifully filled her glass and sat at the table next to Everleigh.
His dad stopped shuffling cards. "Let's hear about this altercation."
Tate chuckled. "And don't leave any details out about Craig going down. I want to hear it all."
He proceeded to tell them about their afternoon. They laughed and clapped their hands when he told them about his encounter with Craig.
Tate shook his head. "I know we shouldn't laugh, but that asshole has had it coming for a long time. I simply don't know what he’ll do once control is firmly taken from him. I think he'll either have to leave, which I kind of hate to think of, because we can't keep tabs on him. Or, in jail where he'd be under lock and key. That's really the best place for him."
Henry laughed. "I think you're right."
His phone rang and he saw Adelaide's name on his screen. "It's Addy." Tapping his phone, "Hey, Addy, what's up?"
"So, there's a woman from the mountain who snuck down here. She wants to talk to Everleigh. She's scared. She seems sincere and she's afraid to be seen down here."
"Okay. We're at the HOG. It'll be about ten minutes."
Hanging up he looked at Everleigh. "There's a woman from the mountain who snuck down to see you. Addy says she's scared but it's important to talk to you."
"Oh." Everleigh stood. "I can go."
"Not alone."
"You don't have to interrupt your time with your family."
He stood and huffed out a breath. "Everleigh, I'm your protection."
"Oh."
He glanced at his parents. "We'll be back as soon as we can."
Tate called out, "If you need help, call."
"Addy and Maya are there. They're as badass as they come."
