No one makes my control weaken like she does. The sooner we can agree on something, the sooner I can make her moan the way she did four years ago.

But my offer makes Sybil scoff, and she shakes her head. "I really don't appreciate you mocking me."

"Too low?"

"Too ridiculous."

"A million, then."

Sybil is stunned into silence for a moment, regarding me again with her jaw gone slack. I want her surprise to dissolve into acceptance so we can get to the real business. Instead, she leaps to her feet with fire in her eyes, ready to march out of the living room.

I stand, catching her arm easily. She snatches it back, whirling to scowl. I'm sure she doesn't know how her feistiness stokes my need. She's too fucking impossible. I have to stop myself from pulling her against me.

"Stop screwing with me, Nico."

"I'm not the type to screw around," I assure her, moving closer as she takes another couple of steps back. "But I'm happy to start. With you. Just agree to the contract."

Her lips capture my attention when she blows a strand of hair out of her face. I remember kissing them. How soft they were. How she used them to whisper in my ear and giggle and pant.

Fottutamente impossibile.Damn this stubborn woman and her effect on me.

"Holy shit. You're actually serious about this. You really want a baby?"

"Yes."

She makes a face, taking another step back. I follow. "Do you even know the first thing about babies?"

"You think I've never been around one before," I note, trying not to let my eyes dip to the lines of her clavicle. Her back is now pressed against the wall beside the door to the bedroom.

"Have you?"

I fight a smile, taking in her flustered face and how she swallows when my fingers brush down her arm. "That's my business."

Sybil's dark eyes capture mine when I look at them again. The fire in them has softened ever so slightly. She rests her head back against the wall to look at me easier. "God. I can't believe you're actually serious about this. Are you sure?"

"I made a deal, and I always follow through with my promises. I just need your answer."

Her lips twist to one side, demanding my attention again as she considers my words. I can tell she's on the verge of asking whom I made a deal with, but she seems to change her mind. "You didn't follow through with your promise to kill me. Not that I'm complaining—just observing."

I place my hands on either side of her head to lean to her eye level. It's also to keep them from going to her body since I've about run out of control. "Consider that my first time."

"Awe. Don't tell me I popped your promise-breaking cherry?" She laughs derisively.

She tries to slip out under one of my arms, but I trap her easily again, my irritation adding fuel to the heat building between us. "You're stalling."

"Of course, I am. What am I supposed to say to this? I don't know what to think."

"Say yes. Think about how your family will be better off. How your life will be peaceful. You can go on and do whatever you've been too scared to do because of those motherfuckers. This is solving all of your problems, Sybil."

I'm more than eager to get things going, and I can tell by the tantalizing points of her nipples under her shirt that she is, too. But still, she resists, looking away from me. Torturing me.

"I just don't know. Something about it is…wrong."

"It's just a transaction," I suggest, allowing myself to brush my lips over her temple. She smells like autumn woods, and I feel her shiver. "Like anything else in life."

"If you really think that way about everything, you're a jackass."

"I'm a realist."
