Gritting my teeth, I lean down so our faces are closer. I'm well over six feet tall, but she's petite. Just the right height for pinning against a wall and fucking this audacity out of her.

I scowl at the thought and her effect on me. No one has power over me, least of all this minx. "Did you offend the Gattos? Talk to authorities? Take a bribe?"

"No."

"You did something to incite it. I want to know what they were planning with you."

She throws her hands in the air, and I can see how raw her wrists are from the tight bindings. "They were going to kill me, okay? You get to do it yourself now. Get on with it or let me go back to my family to get them the hell out of here."

Sybil's outburst is quickly followed by her shrinking in on herself as I take a step forward. Her temper fans mine. No one speaks to me like that. I shouldn't allow her to, either. I would be breaking bones and busting kneecaps if it was anyone else.

But seeing her unharmed in the back of that car was a relief I can't let myself linger on. If she had to be kidnapped and terrified like that, at least it was without further harm.

If they had harmed her…I force myself to focus so I don't see red again.

"You want to run?" I sneer. "You had four years to do that. Your grace period is over, monella."

Before she can register in time to fight back, I turn her and trap her wrists again with the same bindings. I don't tie them as tight as they were. They're stained red now from the blood on my hands. It's smeared on her arm, too.

"You really have to tie me up before killing me?" Sybil snaps. "What's the point of that?"

"Shut up."

The silence lasts mere moments. Then, "Are you not? Just fucking tell me, don't be so cryptic about it. If you let me go, I swear I'll—"

I gag her quickly again, amused at the gasps of indignation and the fury in her eyes as I do. She seems more insulted that I would silence her outbursts and swearing than she was by the idea that I would kill her.

Percy catches my eye and raises a brow. "Wanna share your game plan, Boss?"

He thinks this is funny. The moment we're alone, he's going to let me have it. I don't care. I walk past him, bringing an infuriated Sybil with me, and open the car's back door.

"Get in."

Her face makes it clear she'd rather die out here in the woods. So fucking stubborn. It's a miracle she's survived this long at all, considering her connection to my world. Why the Gattos waited this long to kill her is beyond me, but the fact that they tried heats my temper quickly again.

Instead of playing this game with her, I scoop up Sybil and toss her in the back. She won't be buckled, but I trust my driving more than Giovanni's.

"We going to do some babysitting?" Percy chuckles when I slam the door shut. "I'm not opposed. Just curious since you don't seem to know the answer yourself. You seem worked up."

"Vaffanculo," I repeat, slipping into the driver's seat.

He gets in, looking chipper as we drive back to the city. As we do, the traffic increases, giving me more opportunities to check the rearview mirror for a glimpse of Sybil. She's curled up in the seat behind me, looking out the window. No longer toe-to-toe with me, the fight has drained out of her, and she looks exhausted. Still, she doesn't cry.

She's too goddamn beautiful. I hate it. Looking at her should remind me of that day, not of how it felt to touch her. To taste her.

"We going back to Luis's Lounge?" Percy asks.

"No."

I bring my attention back to the streets in front of me. I never like driving cars that belong to the family. They're nice enough, and all the windows are tinted, but I prefer my own toys. I take another turn.

"Don't tell me," he sighs. "Is it the safehouse over by St. Ann's?"

"Is that one still empty?"

"Yeah."

"Then yes." I barely stop myself from looking in the rearview mirror again. "Let Ace know to meet us there."
