“If she can’t bring a smile to your face, nothing can. What’s on your mind today, Reed?”

He blew out a breath and shook his head, rubbing Brandy’s neck and trying to avoid her lapping tongue reaching for his face. “Okay, enough. Down you go.” Bending, he released her to chase a butterfly then gave his mother a rueful glance. “How did I go from having no women invading my thoughts to three?” He realized his mistake the moment her eyes widened and a wide grin blossomed.

“Three? Me you’ve endured for almost thirty-nine years. Now there’s Allie, she’s so cute...”

“Sometimes not so cute,” he cut in.

Andrea looked inside the glass doors then back at Reed with a frown. “Surely you’re not upset with her? I’m positive whatever she said or did, it was with a good heart.”

“No, I’m not upset with her.” Well, maybe a little. His mother was right though, Allie’s intentions are always good.

“Is the third someone special?” she persisted.

Images ran through Reed’s head: Lily getting out on a cold, snowy day to coax a homeless woman into shelter, her face filled with compassion; Lily devastated by John’s latest betrayal, her eyes showing the first hint of resignation about ending her marriage; Lily quivering in his arms last night, her soft nipple going stiff under his touch, her pussy fluttering around his fingers, her quick, damp orgasm damn near hindering his circulation. Special didn’t begin to describe her.

“Yes and no, and that’s all I’m saying.” He bent and kissed her cheek. “But I love you for caring.”

She squeezed his shoulder, replying, “Just remember I’m here if you need me. All I ever wanted for you boys is for you to be happy.”

Reed recalled thinking the exact same thing about Lily then pivoted and followed his mother inside.

Chapter Five

“You did what?”

“Shhh!”Lily gripped her phone, hurrying to keep Vickie’s voice down. “Don’t let Levi hear you!”

She’d made it through the week without telling anyone about those stolen moments with Reed last Saturday, but with a free weekend ahead of her and nothing to do except continue to curse and savor her first illicit tryst, she’d succumbed to the need for some unbiased input. And who else would she confide in besides Vickie? During her separation and the months spent in Florida, she’d isolated herself from everyone except family and working with Trina. There were some things, though, she couldn’t share with her boss, like improper engagements while working for a client.

“Relax. He’s packing to leave early tomorrow. I can’t believe it, you and Reed Kincaid. Damn, girl, you couldn’t have picked better to dip your toes into the man pool again. If I didn’t have Levi, I’d hate you right now.”

Lily smiled, rotated her still-sore shoulder, and sank onto the couch. Leave it to Vickie to ease her tension with a few words. “Then I’m doubly glad you have my brother.”

“But I’m free this weekend and I’ll be at your door before lunch. Make plans, and I want details, specificdetails.”

“In that case, I’ll run out in the morning for wine. See you tomorrow.”
